Definitions

  • This invention relates to the packaging of liquids, both alimentary or not.
  • This invention relates to a screw cap removably coupled with a respective nozzle fixed to a semi-stiff paperboard container for liquids.
  • the containers for liquids are made by means of sheets of semi-stiff material that are suitably folded and welded.
  • These containers are made of packaging material constituted of paparboard that is, at least inside the container, suitably coated with a metallic sheet, i.e. aluminium, which outer surface is internally coated with a thermoplastic film, i.e. polyethylene.
  • These containers generally of parallelepipedal shape, are on the upper part folded and closed by a transversal welding of the opposed edges so as the top wall of the container is almost flat or has two main pitches sloping outwardly the container itself.
  • the opening of these containers is obtained by forcing the transverse welding in correspondence of suitable, seldom pre-cut, points, without the possibility of tightness reclosing said types of containers after the first fruition of the contained liquids.
  • the main drawback of said closing system is that the nozzle must be welded to the container before filling it with the liquid: this involves a notably complication in the realisation of the packaging line since a device, welding said nozzle to each container already formed but not yet filled with liquid, must be added to the packaging machine.
  • Another known “open and close” system includes the glueing of a tab closing-opening device onto the outer rim of an opening made through the container top wall.
  • This device is formed both by a base glueable to the container and having normally a spout intended to facilitate the contained liquid pouring, and by a tab hinged and removably coupled to said base and forming a tightness closure for the container.
  • the most recent embodiments of these systems include the covering of the pouring opening by means of a removable or lacerable strip of suitable water-repellent material glued above the edges of the pouring opening so as to form a kind of "guaranty and tightness seal" for the contained liquid before its first fruition. This strip lays between the container and the tab of the "open and close” device.
  • a further drawback is that these glueings occur when the liquid is already inside the container and the latter is still open in correspondence of the pouring opening, to which edges the device or the guaranty strip must be glued.
  • the objects of the present invention are to provide a opening-reclosing system for a liquid container that can avoid the above mentioned disadvantages of the background art .
  • the main object is to provide an improved pouring spout for semi-stiff liquid containers that does not contact the liquid till its first fruition.
  • Another object is to provide a pouring spout that can remove every fractured or cut flap produced during the container opening. Another object is to provide a pouring spout with the nozzle fixable to the outer surface of the sealed container previously filled with the liquid.
  • Another object is to provide a pouring spout that can guarantee the fulfilment of the indispensable hygienic rules for the good liquid preservation inside the container when it is still sealed or already opened, and besides facilitating the liquid pouring.
  • Further object of the present invention is to provide a pouring spout of simple attachment, easy usage, and safety seal.
  • an improved pouring spout for a liquid container is made with a packaging material of paper coated with a metallic sheet, coated by a thermoplastic film so forming a water-repellent layer, with said packaging material folded and welded so as to define a parallelepipedal shape for the container with top wall .
  • This pouring spout includes: a nozzle, which base is externally fixed to the container near the rim of a recess carried out on the container by removing a paper portion delimited by said rim;
  • a cup formed by an outer body, removably coupled to the nozzle, and by an inner body fittable inside the nozzle and at its free end, provided with cutting means able to cut the water-repellent layer of said recess consequently to a piercing phase of the container wherein the cap is advanced beyond the recess.
  • Figures 2, 3 and 4 illustrate an axonometric view of the cap removing from the pouring spout nozzle;
  • Figure 5 is a partial sectional enlarged view illustrating the still sealed pouring spout of figure l;

  • This container 2 is carried out with a packaging material including for example paper 4, internally coated with a metallic sheet 5 (i.e. aluminium) that is internally coated with a thermoplastic film 6, for example polyethylene.
  • the metallic sheet 5 and the film 6 form a water-repellent layer of the container 2.
  • the packaging material is suitably folded and welded so as the container 2 is commonly parallelepipedal shaped and has a top wall 7 almost flat or with two sloping pitches, as it is shown in figure 1.
  • the pouring spout 1 mainly consists of a nozzle 10 and a cap 20.
  • the nozzle 10 has a base 10a and a cylindrical externally threaded body 10b to which the cap 20 is screwable.
  • the base 10a is externally glued to the container 2 near the rim of a recess 8 carried out on the container by removing the paper 4, for example die cutting a disc of this paper.
  • the bottom of the recess 8 consists only of the water-repellent layer 9 of the container 2.
  • the cap 20 consists of an outer body 21, internally threaded and matchable to the cylindrical body 10b of the nozzle 10, and of an inner body 22 integral with the outer body 21 and with such dimensions that can be inserted into the nozzle 10.
  • Cutting means 23 are fixed to the free end of the inner body 22, and consist of a tubular hollow element 26 having a slit 24 vertically carried out through the tubular element wall .
  • the usage of this pouring spout 1 is extremely easy and effective since the user, to use the liquid preserved inside the container 2, must easily tear a guaranty ring 11 commonly linked by known small teeth to the free edges of the cap 20 and the nozzle base 10a.
  • the user must now screw the cap 20 on the nozzle 10 carrying out the piercing phase P (see figures 3 and 6) wherein the slit 24 of the cutting means 23 cut a tab 9a of the water-repellent layer 9 forming the bottom of the recess 8.
  • the cap 20 can accomplish a screwing rotation on the nozzle 10 less than 360 degrees so avoiding the complete removal of the tab 9a. It is also possible to establish the initial screwing travel of the cap 20 on the nozzle 10 so that the tab 9a will be fully detached from the container 2.
  • the free edge of the tubular hollow element 26 of the cutting means 23 is provided with a couple of teeth 25 that can completely cut the tab 9a during the piercing phase P.
  • This tab 9a remains bound to the cap 20 because of an axial hook 27 linked to the central body 22 of the cap 20 and protruding from the plane defined by the two teeth 25.
  • the usage is the same as that adopted for the preferred embodiment of the pouring spout 1.
  • the unique peculiarity is that, first of all, the hook 27 pierces the bottom of the recess 8, than the teeth 25 cut the tab 9a from the water-repellent layer 9 progressively during the advancement of the cap towards the recess 8. Than the tab 9a remains completely detached from the container 2 when the cap is screwed with a rotation greater than 180 degrees; the tab remains permanently linked to the cap 20 by virtue of the hook 27 avoiding the tab fall inside the container 2 and then in the liquid.
  • the main advantage lies in providing an improved pouring spout for semi-stiff liquid container that does not contact the liquid till its first fruition from the container, so allowing the aseptic packaging of the liquid.
  • Further advantage consists of providing a pouring spout able to take away the cut material from the container during the opening or piercing phase of container.
  • Another advantage is that it provides a pouring spout wherein the nozzle is fixable on the outer surface of the previously filled and sealed container avoiding the risk of infecting the liquid.
  • Another advantage is that it provides a pouring spout able to guarantee the fulfilment of the necessary hygienic rules for the preservation of the liquid inside the container both when the latter is still sealed or when it is already opened besides making easier the liquid pouring from the container.
  • Further advantage of the present invention is that it provides a pouring spout that can be simply applied to the container and is easy usable and safety tight.
