Abstract

A fuel feed system for an internal combustion engine (17) which has unit injectors (18) supplied by a fuel rail (20). The fuel system comprises a fuel tank (11) and a motor driven feed pump (14) situated in an auxiliary reservoir (13). A return pipe (19) delivers fuel back to the auxiliary tank (13) through a venturi type top-up pump (21) which draws fuel from a main reservoir (12) through a non-return valve (27). A venturi type recirculation pump (33) causes fuel to be recirculated through a recirculation duct (34), this duct being connected to the return pipe (19). In a modification (figure 2) the recirculation pump is electric motor driven. In a further modification the recirculation pump comprises an additional pumping element on the feed pump.
