Abstract

Variable tension, light, non-stretch breastplate band (1) provided with Velcro® tape at one end (4) for initially tensioning the thorax-immobilizing device. The band is inserted into an optional metal part which partially rotates to tighten the band about the thorax and further tighten it in the event of coughing or discomfort. The device of the invention ensures that the thorax is continuously immobilized and is suitable, in particular, for patients who have been discharged from hospital after undergoing thorax surgery. The breastplate band enhances healing of the sternum, helping to consolidate it during the three or six months it needs to be worn, while allowing the patient to dress normally. The wearer of the device can tighten and further tighten it in a single operation.

Claims

1 - Chest bandage for immobilization of the thorax, formed of a strip of non-stretchable fabric (1) having a smooth inside face (2) and an velvety outside face (3), this strip (1) comprising at one front end on the inner face a surface of crocheted fabric (4) capable of adhering to the velvety face (3), so that the strip of fabric (1) forms a loop around the thorax, characterized in that the strip of fabric (1) is passed in S through a rigid piece called tensioner (5), of planar shape, comprising two axes transverse to the strip (1), the tensioner (5) being capable of rotation by 180- approximately between a normal position in which the tensioner (5) is parallel to the generally extended band (1) and a tension position forcing the band to make an additional run so as to shorten the loop and by the fact that it includes a locking means of the tensioner (5) in the tension position.

2 - Chest bandage according to claim 1, characterized in that the locking means is constituted by a piece of crocheted fabric (4) fixed to the tensioner (5) on the outside of the band (1), the hooks being at the outside in the normal position of the tensioner (5), this piece of crocheted fabric (4) being applied against the strip (1) in the tensioning position of the tensioner (5).
