Definitions
- This invention concerns a back and/or sitting support for an operator at a fixed workplace in a room, such as a working chair in a hairdressing establishment.
- body-support devices of various types, which, however, mainly aim to support the body in the sitting, lying or kneeling position. Supports for people in the standing position are less frequent, although the use of a 'platform' equipped with a backrest against which a person in the standing position can rest with the intention of reducing feelings of tiredness is known. In use, such platforms, however, reduce the freedom of movement at a workplace that requires temporary movements of the operator.
- this invention In taking care of hair in a hairdressing establishment it is common to place the customer in a hairdresser's chair, after which the hairdresser, during the course of working, moves in the standing position around the customer approximately a half turn, i.e. one hundred and eighty degrees, and in doing this is often forced to adopt crouching working postures. This is very strenuous on the back, neck and legs. To facilitate execution of the work and reduce the strains mentioned above this invention concerns a back and/or sitting support that can be used by a hairdresser during the course of work.
- the invention is characterized mainly by the back and/or sitti" i support being a unit attached to the floor that has a frame-like upper part, a 'support rail', which surrounds part of the working chair with a full opening forwards in the sitting direction and with space to work between the working chair and the support rail so that the support rail can form a support at the back for the operator's lumbar region and/or back while carrying out the work.
- the invention is characterized by the back and/or sitting support possessing a column attached to the floor and centrally located on which the support rail can be raised and lowered in relation to the floor.
- the invention is also characterized by the support rail being capable of being displaced in a horizontal guide which, in line with the support-rail's forward pointing opening, is firmly arranged at the upper part of the basic column.
- the frame-shaped upper part, the 'support rail' is preferably on the top and/or inside clad with a cushion-like stuffing with a turning position on the frame that can be varied depending on the operator's body size and special requirements.
- Figure 1 shows a vertical view of an invention in accordance with the back and/or sitting support seen from the rear
- Figure 2 shows a horizontal view of the back and/or sitting support in accordance with Figure 1
- Figure 3 shows a side view of the back and/or sitting support in accordance with Figures 1 and 2
- Figure 4 shows a vertical view of an alternative design of the upper part of the back and/or sitting support
- Figure 5 shows a horizontal view of the upper part in accordance with
- the exemplified back and/or sitting support consists of the following three main parts: a basic column (1), a bearing sleeve (2) and a frame-like upper part, a
- the basic column consists preferably of a box section tube (5) with a base plate (6) firmly attached at the lower end of the box section (5).
- the basic column (1) is designed to be firmly attached to a floor by means of a number of bolts (4) through the base plate (6).
- the box section tube (5) is designed with a vertical line of penetrating holes (not shown) to permit variable height adjustment of the bearing sleeve (2) and support rail (3).
- the bearing sleeve (2) consists of a box section tube and is mounted on the basic column (1) so that can it be displaced. For this, the lower part of the bearing sleeve
- a sleeve (8) with a rectangular cross section is fixed in the upper end, at the bearing sleeve (2) .
- This sleeve (8) extends back to a limited extent in the working chair's sitting direction to approximately twice the width of the bearing sleeve (2).
- the sleeve (8) firmly attached to the bearing sleeve (2) is designed with a transverse hole to lock the upper part, the 'support rail' at the bearing sleeve (2).
- the upper part is fitted so it can be moved horizontally in the bearing sleeve (2) by a box section tube (9) included in the upper part fitting into the transverse sleeve (8) of the support bearing (2).
- the box section tube (9) of the upper part (3) is designed with a line of horizontal holes (not shown) that permit adjustment of the upper part, the 'support rail' (3) in different horizontal positions in the working chair's sitting direction and locking of a set position using a transverse bolt (10).
- the upper part, the 'support rail' (3) consists in the design exemplified by a pentagonal, polygonally shaped frame construction that forms a support rail round a workplace with a full opening facing the front, in the sitting direction.
- the central part of the frame construction as seen from the back, consists of a bent tube (11) which forms the three rear sides in the open, pentagonal polygonally shaped upper part.
- a pipe which forms the side support (14) is hinged by a riveted or bearing axle (15) to the upper part (3). In the normal position, this side support (14) constitutes a forward extension of the pipe (11).
- the side support (14) is arranged in a known way so that it can only be rotated upwards about its bearing axle (15) to permit access to and exit from the working chair. In the lowered position, the side support (14) rests against a stop lug (not shown) on the frame construction.
- the frame construction of the upper part (3) includes triangular support construction (12, 16) at the rear which permanently connects the rear part of the upper part's polygonally-shaped support frame to the inner end on the transverse sleeve (9).
- the support construction consists of two inclined tubes (12) and a vertical tube (16) with respective tube ends attached to the support frame's tubular central part (11) and at the sleeve (9).
- the upper part's frame construction can, alternatively in accordance with Figures 4 and 5, be designed with a rear support plate (17) to which the inner end of the transverse sleeve (9) is attached. Above this sleeve (9), at the support plate a Vee- like tubular stay (18) is attached and its ends attached to the tube (11).
- a transverse stay (20) is firmly attached at the tube ends of the central part and at support blocks (19) which are attached at the rear tubular part (11).
- the transverse stay (20) thereby adopts a lower position than the tube (11) in the support rail (3).
- the frame construction of the upper part is as a whole designed to resist the bending stresses to which the support can be subjected during work around a working chair.
- the frame construction is, to advantage, designed for the attachment of stuffed pads
- the frame construction and/or cushion function can be designed so as to permit reconfiguration of the support body to temporary seats.
- the support arrangement in accordance with the invention permits the upper part (3) to be lifted off after the bolt (10) has been removed and the upper part (3) displaced out of the horizontal guide (8).
- the bolt (7) may be removed to permit the whole bearing sleeve (2) and upper part (3) to be lifted up and removed completely from the basic column (1).
