  • longitudinal air passages are defined by projecting moulded strips 27 which are formed on the internal wall surface of the cartridges 20. The strips 27 serve to deform flexible plugs 28 carried at the free ends of the respective plungers 22 so that air can escape through the air passage between the plug and the internal wall of the cartridge. Because of this arrangement a cartridge 20 of known dispensers of this type can only be
  • HEET RULE 26 loaded with a predetermined volume of the resinous substance, the volume being determined by the depth to which the strips 27 extend into the cartridge. If the volume of resin loaded into the cartridge 20 extends as far as the strips 27, then, when the plungers 22 are inserted into the cartridge, the resin will not be sealed in the cartridge in an air tight manner because the resulting air passages will allow air to penetrate to the resin. Thus, purpose-made dispensers need to be provided for each desired volume of resin to be held in the cartridges. Accordingly, a 5ml cartridge, a 10ml cartridge, a 15ml cartridge and a 25ml cartridge would all require different dispensers.
  • the known dispenser requires the volume of resin to be loaded into the cartridge 20 to be accurately determined since, if less than the predetermined volume of resin is loaded into the cartridge, then not all of the air will be evacuated from the cartridge when the plunger assembly 23 is inserted into the cartridge as the air escape passage will, effectively, be too short.
