  • the invention also provides a method of assembling a compact disc package, the package comprising front and back panels having sides hingedly connected together, or to a mid section, to form a box-shaped structure, and hinge pins and sockets connecting the front and back panels together, at least one of said pins being adapted to resist attempted disconnection by outward flexing of one or more portions of the package adjacent thereto, which comprises positioning tamper-evident means externally of the package, wherein the tamper-evident means is adapted to provide visible evidence of unauthorised opening of the package.
  • the invention also provides a method of assembling a compact disc package, the package comprising front and back panels having sides hingedly connectable together, or a to a mid-section, to form a box shaped structure, at least one of the front and back and panels, or the mid-section where present, having opposed outwardly resiliently deformable sides, or having opposed sides extending to form outwardly resiliently deformable arms, each side or arm being hingedly connected to a side of the other panel, or to a mid-section, by means of a hinge pin locatable in a socket, which comprises flexing the resiliently deformable sides or arms outwards, sliding at least one of the front and back panels along a plane in which the other of the said panels lies until each hinge pin is located opposite its respective socket, and removing the flexural force, allowing the sides or arms to spring back and the hinge pins to enter the sockets to form a hinge connection.
  • the method preferably further comprises positioning tamper-evident means externally of the package, wherein the tamper-evident means is adapted to provide visible evidence of unauthorised opening of the package.
  • the step of positioning said tamper-evident means may comprise attaching at least one label to said front panel and said back panel and/or said mid section, wherein said label is permanently damaged if said package is opened.
  • the step of positioning said tamper-evident means may also comprise adhering, welding or upsetting together one or more portions of or projections mounted on said front panel and said back panel and/or said mid section wherein at least one of said portions or projections is broken or removed when said package is opened.

  • the bottom panel has a compact disc holder (4) inserted therein, a portion of which is broken away to reveal the hinge mechanism.
  • the front panel (2) is provided with the usual hemispherical projections (5) and studs (6) for the retention of an insert such as a printed booklet or sleeve.
  • the sides (7 and 8) of the top panel (2) are extended to form outwardly resiliently deformable arms (9 and 10) , the arms carrying hinged pins (11 and 12) .
  • the pins (11,12) are of generally cylindrical shape, and provided at their extremities with eccentrically arranged, radially directed projections (13,14) respectively.
  • the shape of the projections can readily be seen from Figures 2 to 4, from which the compact disc holder has been omitted for clarity.
  • the bottom panel (3) has side walls (15,16) provided with generally elliptically shaped holes (17,18) for the reception of the pins (11,12), to form a pair of hinges.
  • two such hinges are provided, however it would be possible to have only a single hinge of this type and another hinge of the normal pin and socket type, although this arrangement may be less secure.
  • FIG. 6A shows a tamper-evident means in the form of an adhesive label (19) which is adhered to the top panel (2) and bottom panel (3) at the leading edge of the package remote from the hinge pins (11 and 12) . It can be seen that the package can only be opened by cutting or tearing the adhesive label (19) , so that it is no longer possible to open the package without providing visible evidence of this.
  • One or more such labels can be provided, and they can be adhered to the leading edge or to the sides of the package.
  • Figure 6C shows a tamper-evident means in the form of an upset projection (21) formed on the bottom panel (3) (or top panel (2)) which engages with a semi-circular projection (22) formed in the top panel (2) (or the bottom panel (3)) such that the upset projection (21) passes through the semi-circular projection (22) when the package is in the closed position.
  • the upper portion of the upset projection (21) as shown in Figure 6C is flattened so that it can no longer be retracted from the semi-circular projection (22) without breakage of one or more of the projections. This therefore provides visible evidence of unauthorised opening of the package.

Abstract

Emballage (1) pour disque compact, comportant un panneau supérieur (2) et un panneau inférieur (3) enfermant un support (4) pour disque compact. Les bords (7, 8) du panneau supérieur (2) sont prolongés par des bras (9, 10) portant des axes d'articulation (11, 12). Les extrémités des axes d'articulation (11, 12) sont pourvues de saillies (13, 14) aptes à s'emboîtier dans des trous (17, 18) ménagés dans les parois latérales (15, 16) du panneau inférieur, de manière à former des articulations telles que les axes (11, 12) ne peuvent sortir des trous (17, 18) lorsque l'emballage (1) est en position fermée.
