Definitions
- the invention relates to a filter especially for the intake air for internal combustion engines.
- An air inlet opening is arranged on the circumference of the housing.
- In the housing there is an essentially cylindrical filter element with an inner support tube, a filter with an outer support tube, the inner filter element being arranged coaxially in the housing.
- the sealing of the fi lter element on the housing takes place via an annular end disk which has a substantially cylindrical, radially inwardly facing surface and is pushed over an inner section of the outlet part.
- the filter inserts of air filters are exchanged after a certain operating time. Depending on the amount of dust, the service life of an air filter can range from a few days (construction machinery) to several months.
- the filter insert known from the above-mentioned US-PS, as well as other, usually used filter inserts consist of a combination of materials, steel sheet being used in particular for the support tubes.
- the actual filter medium is paper or a plastic fleece.
- the end plates are made of plastic (soft elastomer). Disposing of such air filters or separating them into the individual material components is very time-consuming and has therefore been uneconomical.
- waste 11 takes precedence over waste recycling and disposal. Prerequisites for the recovery process are that the recovery is technically possible, the costs of the recovery are reasonable and that a market exists or can be created for the materials or energy obtained. Waste must only be disposed of properly if these criteria are not met.
- the invention is therefore based on the object
- the invention has the advantage over the previously known prior art that the fi ltertei le, which are not subject to wear or consumption, are arranged fixed to the housing and thus only the parts that are subject to consumption are replaced.
- Another advantage of the invention is that by arranging the radial seal outside the filter area, a substantial reduction in the filter size is achieved. It is further in the invention of Vortei l that the radial seal in the radial direction is not by the Fi lter insert or others
- 10 limiting means u is included, but is free to move, thereby achieving greater elasticity and thus greater safety, particularly in the case of vibrations or shocks.
- Fi lter insert with a closed end face on the lid of the housing. This support is provided by knobs that rest against the inner wall of the lid. Here, a positive connection is achieved and the fi lter insert axially
- a secondary element within the center tube.
- the secondary element is not replaced every time the filter insert is replaced -> but only after several replacement cycles.
- the Secondary element is inserted into the center tube and detachably connected to the center tube via the front end plate. So that this secondary element is fixed in the installed position, the filter insert, that is to say the main cartridge, has a stop surface which faces the secondary element and against which the secondary element bears. On the side of the contact surface facing the cover, this is provided with knobs, which in turn are supported on the cover.
- This type of attachment cj es secondary element proves to be extremely reliable.
- the filter insert is a paper or nonwoven formed in a star fold.
- the end faces of this fi lter insert are equipped with end plates made of PUR foam.
- the sealing profile is integrated in these end plates.
- a groove is provided in a advantageous manner on the extension tube.
- This groove is located on the inside wall.
- the center tube has a bulge and is pressed into the extension tube, as a result of which the bulge comes into contact in the groove and represents a rigid connection of the center tube with the extension tube and with the housing.
- the raw air inlet is made tangential and has a discharge wall. Both produce a drainage of the raw air. This drain flow acts like a cyclone, so that the coarse dust is thrown outwards and reaches a dust discharge valve in the area of the inner wall of the housing.
- connection via the housing and cover takes place by means of a Locking element.
- a Locking element is a
- Snap lock which is arranged with a flexible hinge on the lid or housing and reaches over a flange of the element to be connected and engages there.
- the cover is in almost any number with respect to the housing
- Rotary positions can be attached.
- the contact area between the housing and cover is equipped with detent elements. These prevent accidental twisting of the cover on the housing caused by shocks or vibrations during engine operation.
- Another advantageous embodiment of the invention provides for the outer casing of the filter housing to be provided with a polygon.
- This fi lter housing is placed on a fastening element which is suitable, in conjunction with the polygon, for positively fixing the filter housing in almost any installation position.
- the fastening element essentially consists of a base plate which has a tensioning strap which engages over the polygon of the housing.
- this polygon can be equipped with locking recesses, which are provided both in the circumferential direction and in the axial direction.
- the fastener is provided in this case with locking cams which engage in these recesses. Since the locking recess is arranged both in the circumferential direction and in the axial direction, the housing can be positively fastened in a number of different positions in the axial direction.
- the fi lter is therefore suitable for adapting to almost any installation conditions and ensuring an optimal fi ltering effect for any installation position.
- the fi lter shown in Fig. 1 is shown in two half-sections.
- the left half section shows the filter with the lid still slightly open while the right half section shows the filter with the cover closed.
- the fi lter consists of a cylindrical housing 10 with a raw air inlet 11 and a clean air outlet 12.
- a discharge wall 13 (dip tube) is provided in the area of the raw air inlet.
- a swirl flow of the raw air can be achieved. This causes a separation of coarse dust particles, these coarse dust particles coming down on the inner wall of the filter and being guided outside via a dust discharge opening 14, which is closed with a known dust discharge valve.
- a filter An expedient embodiment of a filter is to be seen in the fact that the center tube is arranged fixed to the housing. Since this center tube is not subject to wear and tear, replacement is not necessary. It is convenient this center tube, which is made in particular of plastic, is strongly connected to the extension tube of the housing. According to an embodiment of the connection between the center tube and the extension tube, the center tube has sealing lips which are arranged in the connection area and ensure a reliable seal.
- the secondary element is not cleaned but, if necessary, replaced. A cleaning, e.g. B. by knocking or washing out is not practical, since the secondary element can be damaged by this cleaning process and thus loses its effect. It is therefore equipped with a release handle that shows whether the secondary element has been removed.
- This release handle has a grip tab, which is made of plastic and is connected to this end plate with a floating skin. If the secondary element is to be removed, this floating skin must be torn open and the grip tab pulled up. The secondary element can be removed with this grip tab. Since the grip tab is now in the open state, it can be seen immediately that the secondary element has been removed.
- the secondary element is provided with a radial and / or axial seal. In particular, the axial sealing action is supported by a bead on the attachment tube.
- the housing 10 is also provided with an extension tube 15, as well as with a circumferential locking projection 16 and a zy li nde riformi receptacle 17 for a cover 18.
- the lid 18 is pot-shaped and has at least two locking elements 19, 20. These locking elements are pivotally connected to the lid via so-called bending hinges and are made together with the lid in one step from plastic. They engage over the locking projection 16 of the housing 10.
- the locking element 19 is shown in the open position.
- the locking element 20 is in the closed position Position shown.
- a metal or plastic medium pipe 22 is attached on the extension tube 15 of the housing 10.
- this is provided with a bead 23 which engages in a groove 24 in the extension tube 15. Unintentional removal of the center tube is no longer possible.
- a fi lter insert 21 is pushed over the center tube 22.
- This fi lter insert carries on its upper end face a radial seal which forms a unit with the end plate 40 of the fi lter insert.
- This radial seal consists of a circumferential bead 25 lying outside the fi lter plane.
- the bead 25 sealingly comprises the extension tube 15
- the type of seal plays an insignificant role in the axial change in position of the filter insert. This type of sealing is also extremely reliable in the event of shocks and vibrations.
- the fi lter insert 21 is supported at its rear end via knobs 26 on the cover 18. These knobs, which can also be designed as deformation ribs, serve for the axial fixation of the filter insert and for vibration damping of the cartridge which is only freely exposed in the rear region on the center tube 22.
- a secondary element 27 is arranged within the central tube 22. At its front end, this is provided with a PUR foam face seal 28. This end face seal is non-positively connected to the extension pipe 15. The rear end of the secondary element

The invention relates to a filter especially for the intake air for internal combustion engines.
From US-PS 47 20 292 an Luftfi lter is known with the following features: A housing with an axial outlet opening and a substantially open second end which can be closed by a removable cover. An air inlet opening is arranged on the circumference of the housing. In the housing there is an essentially cylindrical filter element with an inner support tube, a filter with an outer support tube, the inner filter element being arranged coaxially in the housing. The sealing of the fi lter element on the housing takes place via an annular end disk which has a substantially cylindrical, radially inwardly facing surface and is pushed over an inner section of the outlet part.
As is known, the filter inserts of air filters are exchanged after a certain operating time. Depending on the amount of dust, the service life of an air filter can range from a few days (construction machinery) to several months. The filter insert known from the above-mentioned US-PS, as well as other, usually used filter inserts consist of a combination of materials, steel sheet being used in particular for the support tubes. The actual filter medium is paper or a plastic fleece. The end plates are made of plastic (soft elastomer). Disposing of such air filters or separating them into the individual material components is very time-consuming and has therefore been uneconomical. In accordance with the "Technical Instructions for Waste" in the Federal Republic of Germany, waste 11 takes precedence over waste recycling and disposal. Prerequisites for the recovery process are that the recovery is technically possible, the costs of the recovery are reasonable and that a market exists or can be created for the materials or energy obtained. Waste must only be disposed of properly if these criteria are not met.
In the case of air filter applications, recycling has not been possible due to the disadvantages outlined above.
Another disadvantage of the known prior art is that a relatively large housing is required for the Luftf i 11erei application, which takes up an unnecessarily large amount of space in the air.
Der Erfindung liegt deshalb die Aufgabe zugrunde, einThe invention is therefore based on the object
To create filters whose filter inserts can be easily disposed of in a metal-free design and which are as compact as possible.
Diese Aufgabe wird durch den Hauptanspruch gelöst.This problem is solved by the main claim.
The invention has the advantage over the previously known prior art that the fi ltertei le, which are not subject to wear or consumption, are arranged fixed to the housing and thus only the parts that are subject to consumption are replaced.
This means that only an exchange of the fi lter agent, that is, the paper or the fleece with the two end plates is necessary while the plastic center tube or other elements such as plastic support tubes, valves or the like remain in the filter housing.
It is further in the invention of Vortei l that the radial seal in the radial direction is not by the Fi lter insert or others

Hierbei wird eine kraftschlüssige Verbindung erzielt und der Fi ltereinsatz axialFi lter insert with a closed end face on the lid of the housing. This support is provided by knobs that rest against the inner wall of the lid. Here, a positive connection is achieved and the fi lter insert axially
20 abgesichert.20 secured.
This protection is at the same time a fastening method which is suitable for damping vibrational influences from the outside without the Fi lter insert being required to be supported on lateral "wall surfaces.
According to a further development of the invention, provision is made to arrange a secondary element within the center tube. This secondary element has the property when replacing the 0 Fi ltereinsatzes the entry of sloping dirt, dust or the like into the clean air section of the fi lter to prevent and damage to the fi of the main cartridge lterpapiers to protect the motor against dust damage. The secondary element is not replaced every time the filter insert is replaced -> but only after several replacement cycles. The Secondary element is inserted into the center tube and detachably connected to the center tube via the front end plate. So that this secondary element is fixed in the installed position, the filter insert, that is to say the main cartridge, has a stop surface which faces the secondary element and against which the secondary element bears. On the side of the contact surface facing the cover, this is provided with knobs, which in turn are supported on the cover. This type of attachment cj es secondary element proves to be extremely reliable.
In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the filter insert is a paper or nonwoven formed in a star fold. The end faces of this fi lter insert are equipped with end plates made of PUR foam. The sealing profile is integrated in these end plates.
To attach the center tube, a groove is provided in a advantageous manner on the extension tube. This groove is located on the inside wall. The center tube has a bulge and is pressed into the extension tube, as a result of which the bulge comes into contact in the groove and represents a rigid connection of the center tube with the extension tube and with the housing.
Particularly in the case of very dusty operation, it is advantageous to separate coarse dust from the actual filter in a suitable manner. For this purpose, the raw air inlet is made tangential and has a discharge wall. Both produce a drainage of the raw air. This drain flow acts like a cyclone, so that the coarse dust is thrown outwards and reaches a dust discharge valve in the area of the inner wall of the housing.
Ein solches ist beispielsweise einAccording to a further advantageous embodiment of the invention, the connection via the housing and cover takes place by means of a Locking element. One such example is a
Der Deckel ist in bezug auf das Gehäuse in nahezu beliebig vielenSnap lock which is arranged with a flexible hinge on the lid or housing and reaches over a flange of the element to be connected and engages there. The cover is in almost any number with respect to the housing
Dreh-Stellungen befestigbar. Rotary positions can be attached. For this purpose, the contact area between the housing and cover is equipped with detent elements. These prevent accidental twisting of the cover on the housing caused by shocks or vibrations during engine operation.
Another advantageous embodiment of the invention provides for the outer casing of the filter housing to be provided with a polygon. This fi lter housing is placed on a fastening element which is suitable, in conjunction with the polygon, for positively fixing the filter housing in almost any installation position. The fastening element essentially consists of a base plate which has a tensioning strap which engages over the polygon of the housing. Furthermore, this polygon can be equipped with locking recesses, which are provided both in the circumferential direction and in the axial direction. The fastener is provided in this case with locking cams which engage in these recesses. Since the locking recess is arranged both in the circumferential direction and in the axial direction, the housing can be positively fastened in a number of different positions in the axial direction. The fi lter is therefore suitable for adapting to almost any installation conditions and ensuring an optimal fi ltering effect for any installation position.

Fig. 4 das Detai l A aus Fig. 14 shows the detail from FIG. 1
The fi lter shown in Fig. 1 is shown in two half-sections. The left half section shows the filter with the lid still slightly open while the right half section shows the filter with the cover closed. The fi lter consists of a cylindrical housing 10 with a raw air inlet 11 and a clean air outlet 12. In the area of the raw air inlet, a discharge wall 13 (dip tube) is provided. In conjunction with the raw air entering tangentially into the housing 10, a swirl flow of the raw air can be achieved. This causes a separation of coarse dust particles, these coarse dust particles coming down on the inner wall of the filter and being guided outside via a dust discharge opening 14, which is closed with a known dust discharge valve.
Insbesondere die Ax i a l abdi chtwi rkung wird durch einen Wulst am Ansatzrohr unte rstützt .An expedient embodiment of a filter is to be seen in the fact that the center tube is arranged fixed to the housing. In contrast to the filter insert, the secondary element is not cleaned but, if necessary, replaced. A cleaning, e.g. B. by knocking or washing out is not practical, since the secondary element can be damaged by this cleaning process and thus loses its effect. It is therefore equipped with a release handle that shows whether the secondary element has been removed. This release handle has a grip tab, which is made of plastic and is connected to this end plate with a floating skin. If the secondary element is to be removed, this floating skin must be torn open and the grip tab pulled up. The secondary element can be removed with this grip tab. Since the grip tab is now in the open state, it can be seen immediately that the secondary element has been removed. According to a further embodiment, the secondary element is provided with a radial and / or axial seal. In particular, the axial sealing action is supported by a bead on the attachment tube.
The housing 10 is also provided with an extension tube 15, as well as with a circumferential locking projection 16 and a zy li nde riformi receptacle 17 for a cover 18. The lid 18 is pot-shaped and has at least two locking elements 19, 20. These locking elements are pivotally connected to the lid via so-called bending hinges and are made together with the lid in one step from plastic. They engage over the locking projection 16 of the housing 10. In the left part of FIG. 1, the locking element 19 is shown in the open position. In the right part section or in the cut-out view, the locking element 20 is in the closed position Position shown.
On the extension tube 15 of the housing 10, a metal or plastic medium pipe 22 is attached. For the form-fitting attachment of this center tube, this is provided with a bead 23 which engages in a groove 24 in the extension tube 15. Unintentional removal of the center tube is no longer possible.
Bei dieserA fi lter insert 21 is pushed over the center tube 22. This fi lter insert carries on its upper end face a radial seal which forms a unit with the end plate 40 of the fi lter insert. This radial seal consists of a circumferential bead 25 lying outside the fi lter plane. The bead 25 sealingly comprises the extension tube 15
The type of seal plays an insignificant role in the axial change in position of the filter insert. This type of sealing is also extremely reliable in the event of shocks and vibrations.
Das rückwärtige Ende des SekundärelementsThe fi lter insert 21 is supported at its rear end via knobs 26 on the cover 18. These knobs, which can also be designed as deformation ribs, serve for the axial fixation of the filter insert and for vibration damping of the cartridge which is only freely exposed in the rear region on the center tube 22. A secondary element 27 is arranged within the central tube 22. At its front end, this is provided with a PUR foam face seal 28. This end face seal is non-positively connected to the extension pipe 15. The rear end of the secondary element
Die axiale Kraft zur Abdichtung des Sekundärelements an dem27 is provided with a PUR foam face 29. In this end plate 29, a plastic handle is integrated, which is used to remove the secondary element manually if necessary. The secondary element expediently consists of a fleece 31 which is pushed onto a support tube 32. The axial Force to seal the secondary element on the

Fi ltereinsatzes 21 auf die Stirnseitenabdichtung 29 aufgebracht.Fi lter insert 21 applied to the end face seal 29.
Since the secondary element 27 is completely enclosed by the center tube 22, there is no risk that the secondary element is accidentally removed or falls out when the filter insert is replaced.
Durch die Abstützung des Sekundärelements an dem Fi ltereinsatz 21, am rückwärtigen Ende, und gleichzeitig die Abstützung desWhen assembling the entire fi lter, the secondary element is first inserted, then the fi lter insert 21 is pushed over there and the cover 18 is put on. By supporting the secondary element on the filter insert 21, at the rear end, and at the same time supporting the
Fi lter insert 21 on the lid 18, both elements are brought into their correct position by sliding the lid. This means that incorrect assembly of the two elements is not possible. The end position of these elements is achieved by closing the cover 18 on the receptacle 17.
The metal-free secondary element is easy to dispose of. Fleece, PUR display end plates, plastic center tube and handle can be disposed of thermally, for example.
Because the filter insert 21 has an end face seal made of PUR foam on both end faces, it is readily possible to knock this filter insert out and remove the dirt layer. The elastic end plates are not damaged, as would be the case with sheet metal end plates, for example.
Fig. 2 shows a fastener for fi lter. From the fi lter, the housing 10 is only indicated schematically. The fastening element 33 consists of a base plate 34 which can be fastened via screw connections 35, 36 to an external structure of an engine or a vehicle, not shown here. On the base plate 34 there is a receiving part 37. This receiving part 1 is designed in the form of a circular band which is approximately 40 mm wide.
The fi lter 10 is enclosed by this tape or receiving part 37. A spring steel lug 38 is hooked onto the eyelets of the receiving part 37 and closes the filter receptacle under pretension. The spring steel band is expediently releasably attached on one side. On the other hand, it is hung in an eyelet.

Indentations. The outer jacket of the filter 10 has a polygon over its entire circumference. The polygon is suitable for snapping into the recesses and thus securing the filter against twisting, but on the other hand allowing the filter to be fastened in almost any position.
