In general they comprise acylating the appropriate amino compound with the corresponding carbonyl chloride or anhydride in a reaction inert solvent, e.g. water, methylene chloride or tetrahydrofuran, in the presence of a base (acid acceptor) e.g., sodium or potassium hydroxide when water is solvent; and, when an organic solvent is used, in the presence of a tertiary amine such as a triethylamine or pyridine.
