Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a headlamp system for vehicles, in particular motor vehicles, with at least one lamp discharge containing a gas discharge lamp as the light source and an optical system, at least one headlamp for imaging the light source in a room to be illuminated and a switching device for regulating the light emission the headlight.
Known headlight systems use a light source arranged in a lamp housing, the lamp housing having optical components such as mirrors and lenses as an optical system which, through a light outlet opening by means of a switching device in a room to be illuminated, has a predetermined luminance distribution (high and low beam) generated. So-called halogen lamps (H4 lamps) are customary as the light source, the luminance of which is often insufficient in the case of small light exit surfaces. High luminance levels are achieved with gas discharge lamps or spotlights, so-called ultra-high pressure lamps or short-arc lamps. The long start-up phase until the correct vapor pressure was reached, as well as the inadequate switchability (high beam / low beam) generally prevented these lamps from being used as light sources in headlight systems for vehicles.
The invention has for its object to provide a headlamp system of the type mentioned, which on the one hand easily uses the high luminance of known short-arc lamps as a headlamp system of vehicles and on the other hand a change in the amount of light emerging from the headlamp system within the individual switching types (low beam / High beam) is made possible, the exit surface being substantially reduced with overall smaller headlight dimensions.
According to the invention, this object is achieved with the characterizing features of claim 1. Advantageous refinements and developments evolve from the urinary tract. Due to the transmission of the luminous flux from the light source to the headlight by means of light guides and the arrangement of an optical switch, the use of a gas discharge lamp with maximum luminous efficacy (short arc lamp) can be realized in headlight systems for vehicles. The light source is switched on when the vehicle is started up, generally when the engine is started. Because the headlight system is subdivided into three structural units and flexible assignment of the same can be carried out by means of the light guide, the lamp house can be installed at almost any location in the vehicle, for example.
Associated therewith is a small volume of the actual headlight, which is essentially formed only from a mounted lens and the light exit ends of the light guides and whose exit compartment can be kept considerably smaller.
According to an advantageous embodiment of the invention, in the case of only one headlight, it is sufficient to provide two opposite light guide couplings for the low beam and high beam on the lamp housing, with a reflection back into the lamp house and coupling into the light guide for the low beam when the high beam is switched off if the light guide for the high beam is provided with a corresponding optical switch. In this way, the low beam can be increased if necessary. It goes without saying that a further pair of light guides of the lamp house can be used in the same way for a further headlight.
Fiber optic on / off or changeover switches with two switch positions are provided as optical switches. Either the light is transmitted from the input to the output (switch position 1) or reflected back from the input (switch position 2), or alternatively outputs 1 and 2 are coupled to the input.
With a second lamp housing, the safety of the headlight system can be increased if the light guides are connected in the second lamp area in the manner described above the headlights only get a little dark, but both still emit light.
Cold light mirrors are preferably used as mirror lenses; This ensures that a considerable part of the IR radiation emitted by the light source is not focused on the light guide.
According to an advantageous development of the invention, transparent molded parts can be coupled to the light guide in front of the exit end of the light guide, the light exit of which lies in the focal point of the lens. This results in a certain light distribution in the room to be illuminated. The coupling of an approximately trapezoidal shaped part leads to an elliptical light cone with symmetrical light distribution. The desired asymmetry in the shape of the light cone or the light center of gravity can be easily generated by suitably designed molded parts and / or light guide couplings.
