Abstract

A container such as, for example, a disposable carton or package, for use in microwave oven heating, cooking or baking of material (e.g., food) disposed in the container or in the package. Such a container may comprise, in combination, substantially microwave transparent wall portions, and at least one wall zone having a microwave field modifying coating thereon which is disposed to form an array of discrete, electrically conductive pattern elements. Preferably, the microwave field modifying coating material is pattern applied by printing; and, most preferably, by gravure printing. Different wall zones of the container may have the same or different microwave field modifying coating materials applied thereto in different patterns or arrays. Different patterns or arrays may be configured and coated to achieve different combinations of microwave reflectance, absorbance, and transmittance properties from zone to zone to achieve the desired degree of uniformity or asymmetry of the microwave field in a microwave oven to achieve desired heating, cooking, or baking for various contents of the container.
