Abstract
A device for finishing cast iron objects where there is a mounting jig (11) that allows rotation of the object to be finished and a grinding aggregate (32), which is located in a mobile suspended system which incorporates a pair of angle joints (34). There are means of balancing the units that are to be manoeuvred. The suspended system includes a transverse support trolley (13) which can be moved in at least one direction in relative to the object that is to be finished, preferably parallel to the axis the object is mounted in and a powered lifting arrangement (30) located between the trolley and the pair of angle joints (34). The device preferably incorporates a manoeuvring bar with a handle which is attached close to the grinding organ used in the grinding unit.
Description
DEVICE FOR FINISHING CAST IRON
The invention refers to a device of the kind indicated in the introduction to Claim of Patent 1, for the finishing of cast iron.
Foundries require means of removing grades, gates and feeds from cast iron objects, such as forgings weighing 25-500 kg. The usual practice today is grinding and finishing the cast iron using manual angle grinders. Here the cast iron is placed on work benches, pallets and in manipulators. The largest pieces of such equipment weigh about 5-6 kg and considerable physical effort is required to use them. The cast iron often has to be held up, supported and turned a number of times to reach all the surfaces. Another difficulty is how to remove the ground particles and dust generated by such manual machines.
The main objective of the present invention is designing a device to finish such cast iron products. The device must be easier to use and finish products quicker than existing equipment, and possibly produce more exact finishing work.
This objective can be met by a device designed in accordance with the characterizing part of Claim of Patent 1.
Other advantageous features of the invention are stated in Claims 2 and 3.
The invention will be described in more detail
with reference to the illustrations, where:
Fig. 1 shows a schematic lateral section of one means of designing the invention, while Fig. 2 shows an end section of the equipment in
Fig. 1, this excludes some of the details.
The device in the example includes a combined mounting and rotation unit 11 for a cast iron object (not illustrated) and a frame of uprights 12 which supports a trolley 13 above the mounting unit, where a manually-controlled grinding aggregate 14 is suspended from the trolley. Each of these units will now be described in more detail. The mounting unit 11 consists of a longitudinal support rail 15 located on an under surface. At one end of the support rail there is a fixed end support 16, at the other end a moveable counter support 17 which can be slid along the support rail. Both the end support 16 and the counter support 17 protrude upwards and are either made of sheeting or square tubing.
The end support 16 has a spindle 18 attached with a gripping surface facing the counter support 17. The spindle 18 rotates in a housing (not illustrated) with a toothed rod 19 driven by a hydraulic cylinder 20 complete with control equipment (not illustrated in further detail).
At the upper edge of the counter support 17 there is a counter spindle 21 which is concentric with spindle 18 with a facing end surface. Spindle 21 can be rotated and is linked to a hydraulic cylinder 22 which can move the spindle in an axial direction. The control equipment for the hydraulic cylinder 22 is not illustrated in further detail, since this uses a conventional, known design. By moving the counter support 17 and engaging the hydraulic cylinder 22 the
distance between the ends of the spindles can be varied and the counter spindle 21 can be pressed towards the fixed spindle 18 so that a cast iron object can be clamped firmly m position. The frame 12 consists of four vertical uprights or supports 23 in a rectangle, two at each end of the support rail 15. The uprights 23 at each end of the support rail 15 are linked by upper lateral rails 24, which form a runway for a travel ser 25 between the rails 24 in the support frame. The travel ser 25 can be manually led sideways, i.e., laterally to the support rail 15, in a way described in more detail below.
The traverser 25 also provides a runway for the trolley 13 which rolls on wheels (details not illustrated) along the traverser 25, and is steered by a wheel 26 which is engaged in a chain 27 along the transverse. The cogwheel 26 is driven by a toothed rod 28 which is moved by a hydraulic cylinder 29 attached to the end of the trolley. The trolley 13 supports the grinding aggregate 14 by means of a hydraulic cylinder 30 with a piston rod 31 protruding downwards. The grinding aggregate 14 consists of an angle grinding machine 32 which is balanced in the position it is mounted ox rotated from so that a grinding wheel 33 can be moved 15-20º up from a horizontal plane. The angle grinder 32 can also be swung 90º on a vertical axis around the piston rod 31. By being suspended m a pair of sprung angle joints 34, the height of both the angle grinder 32 and the grinding wheel 33 can be regulated either by adjusting and locking the angle joint or regulating the cylinder 28.
A manoeuvring bar 35 is attached to the grinding aggregate 14. This bar extends sideways to the operating position and is equipped with a control handle 36 which is surrounded by a transparent plastic
screen 37. This screen can be rectangular, for example, and fitted so that it protects the operator's face from sparks and debris originating from the grinding work. An extractor 38 with a fan and an exhaust duct
(not illustrated) is attached to the grinding aggregate 14 (Fig. 2).
The design of this device necessitates the use of various structural details where the technology is already known. This also includes the control and locking systems required to operate the different control and rotational mechanisms.
This device enables an operator to firmly mount and clamp a cast iron object between two spindles 18 and 21 as the distance can be adjusted as described above. Since cast iron object can be rotated on the spindle axis, the grinding aggregate 14 can easily be used to remove the surplus deposits of cast iron. The grinding aggregate 32 can also be raised, lowered and moved into the required position to remove surplus deposits of cast iron, by either pushing the trolley along the traverser 25, or moving the transverser 25 along its rails 24.
