Abstract

La présente invention se rapporte à la production d'éthanol au moyen d'un procédé dans lequel une souche de Bacillus stearothermophilus ou d'une autre bactérie thermophile facultativement anaérobie est choisie pour ses propriétés de fermentation des sucres à la fois en aérobie et en anaérobie et parce qu'elle est active dans le processus de fermentation anaérobie a une température de 70°C ou plus, selon les étapes suivantes: (i) la fermentation anaérobie est effectuée pendant l'extraction en continu d'éthanol à une température de 70°C ou plus; (ii) on maintient l'activité de fermentation de la bactérie en retirant en continu une proportion du milieu de fermentation anaérobie pendant l'extraction d'éthanol et en permettant la multiplication en aérobie des bactéries contenues dans l'éthanol, grâce à l'utilisation de sucres résiduels ou de métabolites desdits sucres présents dans le milieu, avant que celui-ci ne soit réutilisé dans la fermentation anaérobie.
