Abstract
In a crutch usually used by the disabled, an inverse conical resilient support member (1) is provided at the lower end of the crutch (2). The support member made of rubber-like material is provided with an upper threaded hole (3) for engaging the leg member (2a) of the crutch, and with a lower tapered recess (7) therein for nesting a pinned circular plate (8). The pinned circular plate has a plurality of downwardly pointed pins (8a) which serve to stick into the ground or the like in rainy or snowy day under the weight of the user. Thus, the user will not slip and fall on wet or icy roads.
Description
A NQNS ID CRUTCH
TECHNICAL FIELD
The present invention relates to a crutch and more particularly to a resilient support provided at its lower end.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
A resilient support fixed to the lower end of the conventional crutch is usually made of rubber- like material. Thus, the users such as the disabled tend to slip and fall on the road, particularly on the icy or wet road when walking with such crutch.
Further, the conventional crutch has no luminous member itself so that when the users with the crutch walk in the night they will get hurt by collision with other walkers and vice versa.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
An object of the present invention is to provide a nonskid crutch which is to overcome the above dis¬ advantages .
Tne nonskid crutch in accordance with the object of the present invention is constructed of an inverse conical resilient support fixed to the lower end thereof with its inner upper and lower ends being bored to provide a screw hole for engaging a leg member of the crutch and a tapered recess in which a means causing the nonskid crutch not to be skidded is fixedly inserted, respectively. The tapered recess is provided with a circular pinned plate having a plu-
rality of downwardly pointed pins which stick into ground or the like for preventing the disabled from sipping and falling on the icy or wet roads.
Another object of the present invention is to c that the users with such nonskid crutch may be clear¬ ly visible to any one in the night thus preventing the users from colliding with others by providing a luminous tape in one or two rows bonded to the outer periphery of the inverse conical resilient support at 10 any suitable place.
Further, the crutch of the present invention is also used both indoors and outdoors by providing a detachable resilient cap which is optionally attached to and detached from the inverse conical
., _ resilient support. That is, when the crutch of the present invention is used indoors, the resilient cap member fixedly covers the lower end of the conical support thus covering the downwardly pointed pins by which the supporting surface such as floor is not
~n damaged.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
Fig. 1 is an exploded perspective view of the inverse conical resilient support in accordance with the present invention which is partially broken away 25 to show the interior of the support member in detail;
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of the as¬ sembled conical support member of the present invent¬ ion to which a resilient cap member is fixedly at¬ tached;
30 Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the nonskid crutch of the present invention.
Referring to the drawings , an inverse conical re¬ silient support member 1 is provided to be fixed to a leg member of a crutch 2. The resilient support mem¬ ber 1 is made of rubber-like material such as synthe- tic rubber.
The resilient support member 1 is bored at both ends thereof to provide an upper threaded hole 3 for engaging the leg member 2a of the crutch 2, and a lower tapered recess for mounting a pinned circular j_g plate 8 therein, respectively.
A circular support plate 4 has a central screw hole and extends outwardly from the lower peripheral edge of the upper screw hole .3.
The tapered recess 7 bored from the lower end of τ_5 ' the conical resilient support 1 is for receiving a washer 9 and a pinned plate 8. The pinned plate 8 has a plurality of pins 8a pointed downwardly formed thereunderside. Each of the circular support plate 4 , the washer 9 and the pinned plate 8 has a coaxial 0 hole with one another through which a screw 10 may extend for screwinq them, with the head of the screw 10 being above the circular support plate 4.
The tapered surface 6 of the tapered recess 7 is fromed of an uneven surface 5. When the crutch 2 5 is pressed down under the weiqht of the user, the pins 8a stick slightly into the icy or wet road thus pre¬ venting the slip of the resilient conical support 1.
A detachable resilient cap 11 for fittingly en¬ gaging and covering the lower part of the conical resi- 0 lient support 1 is provided in case it is needed.
If the crutch 2 is used indoors, the cap 11 is attached to the conical support 1 at its lower part thereby preventing a supporting surface such as floor from damaging which may be caused by the pins 8a. In this case, the cap 11 for encraαinq- fittingly the su¬ pport 1 is formed, of which diameter of the upper end of the cap 11 is smaller than the lower end of the cap 11.
On the contrary, on the icy or wet road, the cap 11 may be detached from the conical resilient support 1 so that the pins 8a may stick into the ground or the like for preventing slip or falling.
The inverse conical resilient support 1 has an outer groove la at its outer periphery to which a luminous tape ■12 may be affixed to the conical support 1 at any place thereof.
