Abstract

The surface of the plate is provided with grooves (1, 4) to form portion pieces (3). A drawback of known plates made of an eatable substance is that when breaking portion pieces, always a part with the same breadth as a transverse row in the plate is broken off the plate. Mostly, too many portion pieces are broken off, whereby it is difficult to keep the loose pieces in the pack. This drawback can be avoided by designing the plate and the grooves so that the grooves (1) and the edges (2) of the plate form squares inside each other, which are turned 45° with respect to each other.

Description

An eatable plate to be broken by hand and a method for its manufacture
The present invention relates to an eatable plate to be broken by hand, at least one of the surfaces of this plate having grooves to form portion pieces, and to a method for the manufacture of such a plate.
There are, in principle, two kinds of sweets products made of various eatable substances and broken into portion pieces by the user, viz. bars and plates. The bars are narrow compared with their length and provided with transverse grooves making it possible to break individual pieces off the bar.
On the other hand, plates are known with grooves forming a checkered pattern and with several adjacent portion pieces in the transverse direction of the plate. The most common manufacturing material is chocolate. A drawback of known plates is that it is not possible to break only one piece off the plate at a time, but as many portion pieces are always broken off the plate as there are adjacent pieces in the transverse direction of the plate. This row of portion pieces will then be broken into individual pieces along the grooves. The amount of portion pieces in a row does not generally correspond to the amount desired by the user at the moment, and therefore, there are often left loose pieces in the pack, which pieces can fall off the pack. One plate of this kind is described in the publication DE 3 317 973. The object of the present invention is to provide an eatable plate to be broken by hand, with a possibi¬ lity to break just the desired amount of portion pieces each time. The plate according to the invention is characterized in that the grooves and the edges of the plate form a pattern consisting of squares inside each other, which squares are turned with respect to each other so that their corners are situated in the centre of the sides of the next outer square.
The edges and grooves of the plate form trian- gular portion pieces in the plate, which pieces are arranged so that each time a user takes a portion piece only that piece is broken off the plate. Addi¬ tionally, the portion pieces are situated in the plate so that one of their corners each time is as far as possible from the centre of the plate, which makes it easier to loosen a portion piece from the plate. The plate according to the invention also stands transpor¬ tation very well, because it is not provided with grooves across the plate, along which grooves the plate could be broken by the action of the stresses during transportation.
The object of the invention is also a method for the manufacture of an eatable plate to be broken by hand. According to the method, at least one surface of the plate is provided with grooves to form portion pieces. The method is characterized in that the grooves are formed so that the grooves and the edges of the plate form a pattern consisting of squares inside each other, which squares are turned with respect to each other so that their corners are situated in the centre of the sides of the next outer square.
One preferred embodiment of a plate of the invention is described in the following in more detail with reference to the enclosed drawing, where Figure 1 shows a top view of the plate of the invention, and
Figure 2 shows an oblique side view of the plate. One surface of a plate made of an eatable sub¬ stance and shown in the drawing is provided with grooves 1, which together with edges 2 of the plate form portion pieces 3, which can be made of a homogenous substance or the shell and the inner part of which can be made of different substances e.g. so that the shell is made of a harder substance than the inner part. According to the invention, the grooves 1 and the edges 2 of the plate form a pattern consisting of squares inside each other. The squares are turned 45° with respect to each other so that the corners of the inner square are situated in the centre of the sides of the next outer square. Because the innermost square further is split in two by means of a diagonal groove 4, triangular portion pieces 3 are formed in the plate on account of this pattern, the pieces being situated in the plate so that it is always possible to break by hand exactly the desired amount of portion pieces .
In order to make all portion pieces 3 approxi¬ mately equal in size, the grooves 1, 4 near the centre of the plate are narrower than the grooves situated farther out. The plate is manufactured by means of conven¬ tional technique so that in the basic plate are formed portion pieces 3 and grooves 1,4 inbetween, which together create the pattern described above.
The appearance of the plate can be varied by joining two or several units of Figure 1 to each other, if desired. The amount of the squares situated inside each other can be increased or decreased from what is shown in Figure 1. In the same way, the shape of the squares formed by the grooves can to some extent differ from a geometric square; it can e.g. be rhomboid-shaped. There can be grooves on both sides of the plate, and the groove 4 can be left out, if desired. The plate according to the invention can be made of e.g. con¬ fectionery, as chocolate, or it can be manufactured of a stimulant, as chewing gum. Alternatively, the plate can be made so that the shell of the portion pieces consists of chocolate and the inner part of the pieces consists of some conventional filling.
