LooMFrEtn BROWER, or NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN INKSTANDS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 144,825, dated November 25, 1873; reissue No. 1,419, dated f December 5, 14876; application tiled November 11, 1876. i
To all 'whom it 'may concern:
Be it known that I, BLooMFIELD BROWER, of the city, county, and Stute of New York, here invented n certain new and useful lming is n specification:
lrior to my invention barometer reservoircnp or funnel in the neck thereof, Iend the inkstand hnd been so connected to a screw es to be ruised land lowered thereby', to cause the ink to low into the dipping c`up or funnel. 'lhey hud ulso been provided with e. dipping cup or funnel in their neck, so constructed thnt u vent hud to be opened, on the top ot' the reservoir to canse the ink to flow into the dipping cup or funnel. Both of these forms are shown in English Patent No. 580, 18541:.l
The object of my inventioii is. to produce a barometer reservoir-inksteud in which the ink will flow of itself' into thedipping-"cup or funnel, no mechanic-ul Ineens being employed to accomplish this result, and in which only the and my invention consists in a, barometer reservoir-inkstund provided with a. dipping cup or funnel having en opening und vent so constructed that the inkwill llow iutoit of itself without the employment of mechanical means, and still ellow only the clenr fluid ink to beA teken up by the pen, t ln the nccompnnyingdrewing, Figure 1 represents u longitudinal section of en inkstnnd embodying;l my invention. Fig. 2 is u crosssection at line a: a: of Fig. 1, with some modi- Iieutons. 'i
A represents the reservoir, with the usuel neck B. Dis e dipping cup or funnel attached to the top of the neck B, ltud extending into the vessel und below u line level with the infunncl .D suitable openings a lere made, either in its bottom or in or around its sides, or iu bothpleces,so that the ink or air, or both, may
lfreely into the seme through the opening pass freely through them.
The dipping cup or'funuel D muy be made to forni one piece with the neck B, or the sume muy be lnndeseperate land fitted leirti,g;l1t iny to e suitable Ahole made in the top part of the neck B, es shown in Fig. 2.
'lhe reservoir A being lilled either through the dipping cup or funnel D or through e suitatble opening mede in any desired [mrt und ztltcrwerd closed up air-tight, the ink will stand in, the neck B on eline level,`or neurly so,with
theinternel projection W,and which seid level y will be in thefunncl l), es the ink cen puss openings a.
The opening` or openings a heilig smell', the
pen eennot pass through4l the seme, end can only take up the clear tluid ink conteinedin' the bottom ofthe dipping Vcup or funnel D, v while the thick or sediment of the ink will remein in the bottom of the inkstend, and ceu- Anot get to the pen.1
In my invention the dipping cup or funnel may be provided with e suitable vent or vents, a', in or around its sides, or theremay be a, 'vent in the neck B. y s
-When the dipping cup or funnel is in position, es shown in Fig. 1, the ink will flow of itselt'into the seme, 'no mechanical' 'means being employed to accomplish tbistresult, such as the tilting of the inkstend or opening of vents or vulves, as in the cases above referred to, or lu other well-known ceses.
What I cleiln as new, and desire to secure A barometer reservoir-inksttmd,V provided with u dipping cup or funnel having en open-l ing end vent so constructed that the ink will iiow into the dipping cup or funnel, of-itselt', and still allow only the clear fluid ink to be teken up.'by the pen, substantially as shown and described.
