Description

Nov 26 1963 A. COBLEY Plant Pat. 2,319
. ROSE PLANT Filed Oct. 9, 1962 United States 2,319 ROSE PLAlJT Alfred Cobley, Earl Shilton, England, assignor to lackson & Perkins Company, Newark, N.Y., a corporation of New York Filed Oct. 9, 1962, Ser. No. 229,512 1 Claim. (Cl. Pit-22) The present invention relates to a new and distinct variety of rose plant of the floribunda class, which was originated by me by crossing the floribuncla variety known as Masquerade (U.S. Plant Patent No. 975) with the iloribunda variety known as Fashion (U.S. Plant Patent No. 789).
The primary objective of this breeding was to produce a new rose variety in which there is combined the plant characteristics of the parent variety Fashion with the unique flower coloration of the parent variety Masquerade. This objective was fully achieved, as evidenced by the following unique combination of characteristics which are outstanding in the new variety and which distinguish it from its parents, as well as from all other varieties of which I am aware:
(1) Plant and foliage characteristics which are generally similar to those of the variety Fashion; and
'(2) An attractive and distinctive Flame Scarlet color of the half-open buds, said bud color changing to Bittersweet Orange, very lightly overcast with Salmon-Orange in the open flowers.
Asexual reproduction of my new variety by budding, as performed at Newark, New York, U.S.A., and also at Pleasanton, California, U.S.A., shows that the aforementioned characteristics and distinctions come true to form and are established and transmitted through succeeding propagations.
The accompanying drawing shows typical specimens of the vegetative growth and flowers of my new variety in different stages of development and as depicted in color as nearly true as it is reasonably possible to make the same in a color illustration of this character.
The following is a detailed description of my new variety, with color terminology in accordance with Ridgways Color Standards and Nomenclature:
