H. C. PORTER.
BATTERY PLATE.
Application l'xlnd July I, 1809] UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY PORTER, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR OI" ONE-HALF T() 'lllll OIVEN II. FAY LIYICRY COMPANY, OF AMI PIACE.
DESIGN FOR A BATTERY-PLATE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 31,367, dated August 8, 1899.
Application filed July 1,1899. Serial No. 722,606. Term of patent 7 years,
To 1li/l ltr/1.0m if may ron/cern,.-
Be it known that I, HENRY C. PORTER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a certain new and useful Design for Battery-Plates,of which the following is a specification.
My design is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l represents a perspective view of a battery-plate embodying my design. Fig. 2 represents a detailed section thereof.
The leading feature of my design consists of a rectangular frame having two series of parallel bars, one arranged transversely and the other longitudinally of the frame, so as to divide the space within the rectangular frame into a series of rectangular openings when the plate is viewed in side elevation.
Referring now to the drawings, my plate consists of a rectangular frame composed of the side bars A and the end bars B and C, the side bars being of greater length than the end bars, and all of said bars being substantially square in cross-section. Extending between the bars A A, at one side of the longitudinal center of said bars, is a series of parallel bars C, spaced a distance apart equal to nearly twice the width of the bars. Between the bars B and C extend another series of bars D at right angles to the bars C, which bars D extend from the longitudinal center to the outer face of the frame-bars B C at the oppo site side of the rectangular frame as a whole from that on which the bars C extend between the side bars A of the rectangular frame. It will thus be seen that both sets of the bars C and D lie within the rectangular frame, the side bars C and D being substantially square in cross-section and of a thickness substantially equal to half the thickness of the frame-bars A, B, and C, as clearly appears in Fig. 2. This arrangement of the cross-bars within the rectangular frame gives to my battery-plate a characteristic and distinguishing appearance.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by design Letters Patent, is-
The design for a battery-plate, substantially as herein shown and described.
HENRY PORTER.
