No. 20,008. Patented July 15,1890.
M114 W BY W ATTY'S.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EDWARD P. BEACH, OF NEVARK, NEW JERSEY.
DESIGN FOR A BROOCH.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 20,008, dated July 15, 1890.
Application filed May 3, 1890. Serial No. 350,525. Term of patent 3% years.
To all whom/ it may concern:
Be it known that I, ED\\'ARD I. BEACH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Brooches and similar articles of Jewelry; and I do hereby declare the following. to be a full, clear, and exactdescription of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had tothe accompanyingdrawing, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which forms a part of this specification.
Said drawing represents a face or plan view of my design for a brooch and similar articles, such as a scarf-pin or button. This view is deemed sufficient to fully illustrate said design, the leading feature of which consists in the configuration or form of the article and the represention upon its surface of a double convolution in the conventional form of a figure 8, having a single blunt projection arising from each of the loops thereof at each end of the brooch, as shown, as will be hereinafter set forth and claimed.
In said drawing, a and b indicatotwoornamentally-engraved convolutions or euria tures intersecting and intertwining with one another in a peculiar manner or form, to wit: the part a forming a loop or curvature at one end of the brooch or other article and the part b a similar loop or curvature at the other, the whole somewhat resembling the figure 8, but showing two diagonal lines across the center, the ends of the part a arising out of the curvature at one end and the part b arising out of the curvature at the other end, one end of each being exposed on each side of the breech, &c., and having the appearance of the end of a vineeut oif diagonally. Gems may be set at the ends or center.
\Vhat I claim is- The design for a brooch or similar article, substantially as herein shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 1st day of May, 1890.
EDVARD I. BEACH.
\Vitnesses:
OSCAR A. MICHEL, OLIVER DRAKE.
