DESIGN.
J. T. SLOCOMB. MIOROMBTER GAGE FRAME.
Patented Apr 13', 1897.
WIT NESSESn W INVENTDR. M Wm UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOIIN TIBBETS SLOCOMB, OF PROVIDENCE, RIIODE ISLAND.
DESIGN FOR A MICROMETER-GAGE FRAME.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 26,884, dated April 13, 1897.
Application filed May 18, 1896. Serial No. 592,063. Term of patent 7 years.
To ctZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN TIBBETS SLOOOMB, a citizen of the United States, residing at Providence, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Micrometer-Gage Frames, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
Figure 1 isasideviewof a micrometer-gage, showing my new design for the frame or bow; Fig. 2, a crosssection on the line C D; Fig. 3, a cross-section on the line A B, and Fig. 4 a back end View.
For convenience in describing I will term a the anvil; Z), Fig. 2, the web; (Z d cl cl, ribs; 6, Fig. 3, and f, Fig. 1, fillets.
Micrometer gage frames have formerly been made with a rectangular form of cross section which to look Well required finishing and polishing all over, and when finished they were open to the objection of exceeding weight and poor hold for the fingers.
As shown by the drawings, my design consists, chiefly, of a curved thin web I), Fig. 2, supported laterally by the round-edged ribs d cl d 11. Now one end of this curved ribbed frame joins to the cylindrical part h, while the other end extends to the anvil a, which anvil is cylindrical and joins the inner rib tangentially, while the adjoining web terminates with a rounded edge, the radius of which is one-half the thickness of web and the center of which is the center of the anvil. At the back end, Fig. 4, the outer rib tapers down to the web, as shown at 70. I also form the fillet f where the anvil joins the inner rib, as shown, and at the other end, where the frame joins the cylindrial part h, I also form a fillet of large radius, as shown at c, Fig. 3.
What I claim is The design for a micrometer-gage frame as herein described and shown.
JOHN TIBBETS SLOOOMB.
