W. L. PIKE. OARRIAGE BODY.
Patented Apr. 6
" INVENTOff w: TNESSES 1 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
IVILLIAM Ii. PIKE, OF GROTON, NEXV YORK.
DESIGN FOR A CARRIAGE-BODY.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 26,873, dated April 6, 1897.
Application filed February 5, 1897. Serial No. 622,226. Term of patent 7 years.
To fl/ZZ whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, WILLIAM L. PIKE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Groton, in the county of Tompkins and State of New York, have invented and produced a new and original Design for a Carriage-Body, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof.
The nature of my design is fully represented in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side view of my design for a carriage-bod y. Fig. 2 is an under View of the same, and Fig. 3 is a front end view.
The box A or main portion of the body is curved from the top downward at the rear end, as seen at B. The lower portion of said box is then extended in a straight line and then gradually curved upward to the front end 0. Upon the front end is mounted the dashboard D, comprising the panels d and tapered side win gs d, having rounded top portion rising above the panels. A rail (2 of like contour, is mounted above the dashboard, and a second rail at", having its ends coiled, surmounts the Whole.
The upper contour of said body, beginning at the front end 0, follows very nearly the curve of the lower front portion of the body until it approaches the box portion A, Where it curves sharply upward until it meets the top line of the box and thence it continues in a straight line to the rear end B.
The heavy lines 13 in the side of Fig. 2 in dicate the contour of the door E, which is hinged therein at its vertical side '2 and is wider at the top than at the bottom. The contour of the door is more distinctly shown in Fig. 1, where it is seen in opened position resting against the side of the box.
A frame a, comprising the rails a and posts a and havin grounded ends, surmounts the top of the box A, and ornamental curved figures (t are seen on the top of the frame at each end.
Projecting rearwardly from the bottom of the box is the curved end-board F, as seen in Fig. 2, where it is shown in open position, as when the surrey is used as a trap with therear seat placed back to back with the front seat.
The upper side portions of the box A have a narrow longitudinal panel I) of latticed work extending its full lengtln and below it is a second panel ('1' of similar character, but
wvhieh is Wider and of finer mesh, which also WVILLIAM L- PIKE.
