Description
H. HUEBNER.
BOTTLE OPENER.
l IGATION FILED SEPT 26, 1910. d 994,402, Patented June 6,1911.
HARRY HUEBNEB., oF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
Specication of Letters Patent.
Patented J une 6, 1911.
Application filed September 26, 1910.4 Serial No. 583,705'.
To all whom it may concem: n v
Be it `known tlat I, HARRY HUEBNER, a
citizen of the United States, residing at.
Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new -and useful Improvements 1n Bottle-Openers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates-to improvements in bottle openers, the object of the' invent-ion being to provide a simple, inexpensive device of this character, which is adapted to rem'ove ine-tal: caps from bottles when a rocking action is applied to the opener; and thelat-ter is in position on the cap.
"With these and other objects in View, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations and arrangementsfof parts, as will be more fully hereinafter described and pointed out in the claim. l I
In the accompanying drawings: Figure l, is a plan view illustrating my improvements, and Fig. 2, is a view` in longitudinal section through the center.
The tool consists of anintegral piece of metal divided into three essential parts, namely, an intermediate enlarged handle portion 1, a sharpened prong or tooth 2 at one end, and an enlarged hammer portion 3 at its other end. The hammer portion 3 is fan shape having one 'of its longitudinal edges beveled constituting a sharp cutting edge as shown at 4, which is designed `for scraping or shaving ice, the other portion .of said end is designed as a hammer to break pieces of ice While holding the same in -the hand. The end 2, which as above stated .is
sharpened, is designed for picking the ice,-
and a handle portion 1 not only constitutes a grlp, but its internal structure constitutes a bottle cap 'remover as will now be explained.`
lhe handle portion 1 is Iof elliptical form having an elliptical opening 5 therein, and opposed inwardly projecting lugs G are located centrally of the handle portion and areA in alinement midway the ends of the longi- ,tndinalw'alls of said opening 5, said lugs being integral with the h lndle portion. Cross plates 7 are made integral with the handle, extend across the opening 5 at equal dis* tances from thev lugs 6, and are provided Vwith inwardly projecting lips 8 as clearly shown. M y
In' operating the device as a bottle cap remover, the lugs 6 are located on top of the cap, and one of the lips 8 disposed under the corrugated edge of the ordinary cap. With the lugs 6 acting as a fulcrnm for the tool, a downward pressure on the one end of the tool Will'easily force the cap from the bottle neck. By providing both plates 7, the tool may be operated in either direction according to which end'of thetool the operator grasps either to press onel end of the tool. or to lift the other, as the case may be.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is: n
A device of the character described, comprising an intermediate handle or grip portion having a longitudinal opening therein, opposed lugs project-ing inwardly'from the centerl of Said handle portion, and plates extending across said opening adjacent the ends of the opening and located eqnidist ant from the lugs, substantially as described.
AIn testimony whereof I have signed in v name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
