Description

y L. T. OBBLEL' CLOTHES LINE REEL. APPLICATION FILED 110V. 11, 1909.
Patented Nov. 22, 1910.
INVENTOR Jazz/rem: Okla UNITE era CLOTHES-LINE REEL.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LAWRENCE T. OBELE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Clothes-Line Reels, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a new and useful improvement in clothes line holders, and has for its object to construct a device of this character, of stout wire so that the same will be inexpensive in the cost of manufacture yet it will be strong and durable.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of the character described in which one end of the rope may be quickly and easily attached to the reel and will be securely held thereto, until it is to be removed.
lVith these ends in view, this invention consists in the details of construction and combination of elements hereinafter set forth and then specifically designated by the claim.
In order that those skilled in the art to which this invention appertains may understand how to make and use the same, I will describe its construction in detail, referring by letter to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a view in elevation of my improved clothes line holder. Fig. 2 a similar view showing it in practical use and Fig. 3 a similar view of one end of the wire showing the construction of the eye.
In carrying out my invention as here embodied, I employ a single piece of stout wire, one end of which has an eye, A formed by looping the end of the said wire. The wire then extends downward for a short distance forming one of the end members B forming an inner side member G, at which time it is coiled at C then bent back upon itself to form the outer member D and this is coiled as indicated by D and is returned upon itself forming another inner side member I], and is again bent at right angles forming another end member F and is carried upward until about the same length as the op- Specification of Letters Patent.

posite side member at which time it is again bent at right angles forming the inner side member G, then it is coiled as shown at G and is returned upon itself forming the outer side member II then again coiled as at H and once more returned upon itself to form the inner side member I, and the end of this side member is coiled to form the eye J and continued obliquely to form the spring catch L leaving a passage way K between it and the member H.
In practice a knot L is tied in the end of the line M and the line slipped through the passage way K into the space between the members H and the spring latch L. The knot will then keep the line from being withdrawn from the reel until so desired and the line may be placed upon the reel by wind ing it around the end members B and F and at the same time said line will be held in place by the inner side members. When only a part of the line is to be used said line is carried over the end member B, around in back of the inner side member I, a loop is then formed in the line and drawn through the space between the spring catch and the member H. The loop in the line is then passed over the, coiled portion II until it rests upon the members I and H and when this has been done the reel may swing from the hook, pole or other object. When all of the line is wound upon the reel the same operation may be carried out with the line in proximity to its end, thus preventing it from becoming unwound, the looped portions allow the reel to be taken hold of while in use and at the same time they are convenient for hanging up the reel.
()f course I do not wish to be limited to the exact details of construction here shown as these may be varied within certain limits without departing from the spirit of the appended claim.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and useful is,-
The herein described line reel consisting of a wire bent to form parallel end members,
. parallel inner side members and parallel outer side members, the end of the strand wire forming one of the end members having an eye formed therefrom, the end of the tinuedhbliquely: toward one of the outer 2 I r i 976,826
