Description

ILLINOIS.
PETER HENRY HINK ANDA HERRMANN" KAACK, ory MoLINE,
Laim Patent, No. 94,206, daze@ August 31, ieee IMIPROVED MANS-LE.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part cf the same.
To all whom it may concern Be it known-that we, PETER HENRY -HINK and HERIRMANN KAAOK, of Moline, in the county of Rock Island, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Mangle and .we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof', reference being had-to the accompanyingdrawings, making part of this speciication, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, like letters indicating like parts wherever they occur.
To enable others skilled in the art to construct and use our invention, we will proceed to describe it.
-Our invention relates to mangles, or machines for pressing and smoothing linen, and consists in arranging three rollers, together with a heavy weight, in two standards, so as to-give an even and uniform pressure to articles fed with an apron between the rollers from a table in front.
In the drawings- Figure l is a longitudinal vertical section on the llineof.:1::c',fg. 2;
Figure 2 is a front view of the maugle, with the table removed, and a portion ofthe standards broken away, to4 show the arrangement of the rollers and weights; and Figure 3is atop plan view, on the line y y, of a part of the mangle.
In constructing ourmangle we make two standards, A and B, providing them with supports, H.
In these standards we mount aroller, C, so as to' turn freely on its bearings, but not to have any vertical movement.
AAbove the roller C we monnt another roller, D, with one of its bearings or axles in a groove, g, in the inner face of the standard A, which groove extends to the top of the standard, and the other passing through a s1ot,p, rin the standard B, and having a crank-handle, 1'., connected to its outer end.
v Above the roller I) We mount another roller, E, with one of its axles in the groove g, and.y the other in a corresponding groove in the standard B, also extending to its top, as shown in figs. land 2.
And above the roller E we mount a heavy iron or other suitable metallic weight, L, having its ends provided with tongues j, which lit loosely into the grooves l The upper'end of the standards we connect with i a cross-piece, J, and to their front sides'hinge a table, K, with hinge c, so that when turned down,
. its inner-'edge will be on a line with the line of contact of the rollers C and D.
This table, K, we provide with a leg, a, hinged at d, for its support, and also with hook e, to -hook into the eye f, when the table isturned up.
In operating our device, we attach to the roller D an apron, which extends ont on to the table K, when it is turned down. Upon this apron the articles to be pressed are laid, when, by means of the crank-handle b, the roller D is revolved, and as revolved, the articles are carried into and around this roller.
The rollers C and E are revolved by the friction caused by the pressure of the weight Cl,A and the alticle is pressed out smoothly.
As the rollers D and E and the Weight G are so arranged as to adjust themselves vertically, it is evident that while securing an even and uniform pressure, they will adjust'A themselves to the thickness of the articles being pressed. When pressed, itis only necessary to nnroll the apron and introduce another as before. It is obvious that the weight'Gr may be of vany size desired.
4 It will thus be seen that our mangle is simple in construction, that the device for pressingV may be of any desired weight, may be exchanged for lighter or heavier when needed, and that with constant operating its utility is not affected.
Having thus described our mangle,
What'we claim, is-
The combination of the standards A B with the stationary roller C, andA the adjustable rollers D and E, weight G, hinged table K, andhingedy leg a, all
constructed and arranged to operate as herein shown and described.A y
PETER HENRY HINK. HERRMANN KAACK.
