EDWIN B. LILLY, OF CORWITH, IOWA.
LAMP-BURNER.
Specicaton of Letters Patent.
Application filed March 1, 1909.
Patented Aug. 3, 1909.
Serial No. 480,558.
To all 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWIN B. LILLY, a citi- Zen of the United States ol America, and resident of Corwith, Hancock county, Iowa, have invented a new and useful Lamp* Burner, of which the following is a specification.
The object oi this invention is to provide an improved construction for lamp burners.
My invention consists in the construction, arrangement and combination of elements hereinafter set forth, pointed out in my claims and illustrated by the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of a complete burner, and a iiue thereon, the dotted lines indicating the same in open position. Fig. 2 is a iront elevation of the same. Fig. 3 is a plan of the same, the iiue being removed.
In the construction of the device as shown, the numeral 10 designates the base of a burner formed with a wick tube 11 and provided with a screw 12 whereby it can be mounted in a socket of a font or bowl, not shown. A gallery 13 is hinged at one side to the base 10 and is provided with a spring lip 14 adapted to engage the opposite side of the base and retain the gallery normally in horizontal position thereon. The gallery 13 is formed with a crowning portion 15, slotted transversely in common form, adapted to deilect a current oi air upon the wick to insure a more perfect combustion. The walls oi the gallery are formed by wire arms 16 arranged in a circle on the rim of the gallery. Two of the arms 16a, 16b extend above the plane of the ends of the other arms 16 and are connected integrally by a loop 16 curved in a horizontal arc. The loop 16c is adapted to pass around and embrace a chimney or flue 17, which rests on the gallery 13 and is embraced at its lower end and centered relative to the crowning portion 15 by the arms 16, 16a and 1Gb. It is the function of the elongated arms 16, 16b and the loop 16c to retain the chimney or iiue 17 against tilting relative to the gallery 13 and permit said chimney to be safely tilted with said gallery when desired.
I claim as my invention- 1. A lamp burner, comprising a base formed with a wick tube, a gallery hinged to said base, guard arms fixed to and extending upwardly from said gallery, some oil said arms extending beyond the other arms and formed with integrally connecting loop adapted to embrace a flue. y
2. A lamp burner, comprising a base formed with a wick tube, a gallery hinged to said base, guard arms fixed to said gallery and adapted to embrace the lower end portion of a chimney or flue, some of said arms extending above the other arms and integrally connected by a loop curved on an arc and adapted to partially embrace a flue near .e5
its top, the gallery formed with a slotted crowning portion within the row of arms.
Signed by me at Des Moines, Iowa, this 26th day oi' January, 1909.
EDWIN B. LILLY.
