UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
AMOS J. SGRITCHFIELD, OF JANESVILLE, WISCONSIN, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO WALTER W. WOODBING, OF JANESVILLE, WISCONSIN.
MEDICINE-TIMER.
Application filed December 17, 1908.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, AMos J. SORITOH- FIELD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Janesville, in the county of Rock and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Medicine- Timers; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in medicine timers.
The object of the invention is to provide a device of this character by means of which the time for taking medicine may be indicated.
A further object is to provide a medicine timer adapted to be applied to a clock and provided with a plurality of pointers each having a different color or designating feature and adapted to co-act with the numbers on a clock dial whereby when the hand of the clock reaches the hour indicated by one of the pointers, the time is indicated for taking medicine from a bottle or vial on which has been placed a label corresponding to the color of or designating feature of the pointer.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as Will be more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a front view of a clock showing the invention applied thereto; Fig. 2 is a side view of the same; Fig. 3 is a vertical sectionalview through the timer removed-from the clock; Fig. 4 is a detail perspective view of one of the pointers removed from the timer; Figs. 5, 6 and 7 are detail views of portions of the bottles or vials having labels thereon corresponding in color to the pointers on the timer.
In the embodiment of the invention, I provide a cylinder 1 which may be formed of any suitable material and is open at both ends as shown. The cylinder 1 is adapted to be applied to the outer or face side of a clock 2. The clocks to which the timer is applied are preferably of the ordinary round or cylindrical clocks now in use and the timer is of such diameter as to correspond with the diameter of the clock. The cylinder is preferably held Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 6, 1909.
Serial No. 468,035.
in engagement with the clock by means of spring clamping fingers 3 of which there may be any suitable number arranged at intervals around the outer side of the timer and proj ecting rearwardly therefrom. The clamping fingers 3 are engaged with the outer sides of the clock and the cylinder 1 pushed back into engagement with the crystal covering the dial.
The inner side of the cylinder is provided with a series of annularT-shaped channels 4 which are preferably formed by a series of annular ribs 5 secured to the inner side of the cylinder 1 in any suitable manner. Adapted to be slidably engaged with the channels 4 are pointers 6 having on their inner ends offset heads 7 which are adapted to frictionally engage the T-shaped channels and thereby hold the pointers in their adjusted position around the inner side of the cylinder. The device may be formed with any desired number of channels for receiving the pointers 6, said channels being spaced apart a sufficient distance to permit the pointers to be readily moved past one another.
In the drawings, I have shown the device as constructed to receive three pointers. In providing a plurality of pointers, each of the same is colored differently or provided with some other designating feature. The pointers 6 in the present instance are indicated as being differently colored and the colors of the pointers correspond to the colors of labels 8 placed on the bottles or vials 9 containing different medicines to be taken at different hours.
In the use of the device, the pointers corresponding to the different colored labels on the several bottles are adjusted on the timer to bring the same opposite to the hour that the medicine in the bottle having the label corresponding to this respective pointer is supposed to be taken so that as the hour or minute hand of the clock reaches the hour indicated by the pointer, the time for taking this particular medicine will be shown.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings,
the construction and operation of the inventers-Patent is:
the invention, as defined in the appended i member, flexible fingers secured thereto 5 claims. adapted to removably hold the annular Having thus described my invention, what member upon the clock, a plurality of chan- I claim as new and desire to secure by Letf nel ways formed inside of said annular memher, and pointers arranged to travel in said channel ways and to indicate a particular 20 time.
1. In a device of the class described, the combination with a clock, of an annular member removably secured thereto,' channel In testimony whereof I have hereunto set ways formed upon said member, and dii'lermy hand in presence of two subscribing witent colored pointers movable in said channel nesses. ways and adapted to designate a particular AMOS J. SCRITCHFIELD. time. Witnesses 2. In a device of the class described, the HENRY F. CARPENTER, combination with a clock, of an annular AROHIE REID, Jr.
