PRUNING-YKNIFE specificati@ of Leiters Patent.
Patented Aprii a?, 190e.
Applicationled November'), 1908. Y `Serial No. 461,675.
To all rwhom 'it may concern: Be it known that I, STEVEk SZEKF, a sub ject of the King of Hungary, residing at Iied Bluff, in the county of Tehaina and State of California, have' invented certain.
new and useful Improvements `in Pruning-` Knives, of which the followingis a specification, reference being had therein to the ac-V companying drawings.
This invention relates to pruning knives, and the object of my invention is to provide a novel runing knife that can be affixed to the limb) of a person for facilitating the pruning of grape vines, trees and foliage without injuring any part of the vine during ing a ortion of the vine or branch. I have there ore constructed a pruning or trimming knife that can be detachablysecured to the limb of a person, whereby the vine or branch can be held in onehand while the knife is manipulated in the other.
The detail construction Ventering int-o'myA invention will be presently described and.V
then s eciiically claimed. j
In t e accompanying drawings :i-Figure 1 is a side elevation of a portion of a persons limb to which a priming knife is attached, Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the pruning knife, Fig. 3 is a plan of the same, andy Fig. 4l is a a sectional view of the knife.v i
tracted ends 3 having spacer blocks 4 for maintaining a kerf 5 between said blocks when connected together by bolts 6 vand nuts 7. The contracted ends 3 of the blocks are provided with alining slots 8 for the insertion of stra s9 employed for securing the blocks to the imb 10 of a person.. A conventional buckle is used in connection with each strap, whereby the blocks can be easily and quickly removed or attached to a limb. (The u per Afaces of the blocks 1 and 2 are provi ed withV alining diagonally disposed grooves 11 and 12, the upper face of the block 2 being cut away adjacent to the groove, as at 13 ,whereby a limb or branch can be placed in the grooves 11 and 12, with a forked part of the limb or branch resting in the cut away portion 13 of the block 2. Pivotally mounted in the forward end of the kerf 5 by a pin 14 is a knife blade 15 having a suitable rearwardly extending handle 16. The knife blade 15 is ada ted to fit within the kerf 5 and is employe for severing the limb or branchk placed in the grooves 11 and 12 of the blocks 1 and 2.
It is thought that the o eration and utility of my runing knife will e fully understood from the foregoing description, and while in the drawings forming a part of this ap lication there is illustrated the preferred) embodiments of my invention, it is obvious lthat various. changes cany be made in the details of construction without departing from the spirit of the invention.
l Having noviT described my invention what I claim as new, is z- My pruning or trimming kmfev is also de- Y 1. A pruning knife comprising two blocks adjoined to provide a longitudinal kerf, a knife blade pivotally mounted in the kerf of said blocks, a handle carried by said knife blade, the up er faces of said blocks having a diagonally isposed groove formed therein, the upper face of one of said blocks being cut away adjacent to said grooves with the forked portion of a limb ada ted to fit in said grooves, and straps extending through said blocks for securing said blocks to the imb of a person, substantially as described.
2. A. iuiiing knife comprising two blocks adjoined to provide a longitudinal kerf, a knife blade pivotally mounted in the Vkerf of said blocks, a handle carried by said knife blade, the upper faces of said blocks having a diagonally disposed groove formed therein, and the upper face of one of said blocks being cut away adjacent to saidA grooves with the forked portion of a limb vadapted to fit in said grooves.
3. A runingknife comprising two blocks adj oine to provide a longitudinal kerf, a knife blade pivotally mounted in the kerf of said blocks, the upper faces of said blocks having` a diagonally disposed groove formed throuoh the ends of seid blocks foi' securing therein, and the upper face of one of seid said boeks to the limb of e person, 10 blocks being out away adjacent to said In testimony whereof I aiiix my signature grooves with the forked portion of' a limb in the presence of two witnesses. n adapted to fit in seid grooves. STEVE SZEKFU.
4L. A pruning knife comprising mitei VVitnesSes: blocks, a knife pivotally mounted between H. E. MCGOVERN,
said miter bloc-ksI and straps extending H. G. KUHN.
