BERNARD HANSEN, OF GONZALES, CALIFORNIA.
COMBINATION HALTER AND BRIDLE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented April 6, 1909.
Application filed March 26, 1908. Serial No. 423A11.
f0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Bnnxxnn .l'iansnx, a citizen of the United States, residing at Gonzales. in the county of Monterey and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Combination llalter and Bridle; and i do hereby declare the following to be a. full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in harness and has prin'iarily for its object to produce a combined bridle and halter.
it is also an object of the invention to provide a novel device of this character which is made in almost its entirety from flexible material such as leather in order to reduce to a minimum any possibility of injury to the animal to which the invention may be applied.
it. is furthermore an object of the invention to provide a novel device of this char acter which includes in its construction blinds, said blinds being provided with a means for holding th an against flapping or displacement.
it is furthermore an object of the invention to provide a novel device of this character which will be simple in construction, ctlicicnt and advantageous in practice and comparatively inexpensive to manufacture.
\Vith the above and other objects in View the invention consists of the details of construction and in the novel arrangement and combination of parts to be hereinafter referred to.
In describing the invention in detail reference will be had to the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification wherein is illustrated a view in perspective of the invention.
In the drawings 1 denotes the cheek straps which have secured to their ends the coupling rings 3. To the upper coupling rings 3 is secured the crown strap a which may be adjusted by the buckle arrai'igement 5 or other m ans. The upper coupling rings 3 also have secured thereto the ends of the brow strap 6 which is further held in position or more particularly against a downward movement by the reinforcing straps 7 secured to the crown strap 4. and to the brow strap 6 sligl'itly in advance of the coupling rings.
Permanently secured to one of the upper coupling rings 3 is an end of a throat strap 8. The opposite end of the throat strap is provided with a snap-hook 9 for detachal'ily engaging the second upper coupling ring This throat strap 8 also adjustable by a buckle arrangement 10 or other means.
The lower coupling rings 3 have secured thereto the nose strap 11. and the chin strap 12, said chin strap 12 being also adjustable. lioos ly mounted on the chin strap is a ring 13 which is adapted to be engaged by a snap on an end of the throat latch 15, the opposite end of the latch 15 loosely engaging the throat strap 8. The ring 13 is also adapted to be engaged by the snap 16 or other securing means of the halter strap 17.
Secured to each of the cheek straps 1 is an edge portion of a blind '18 which has at its bottom an extension 19 secured to the nose strap 11 slightly in advance of the lower rings 8. The upper edge of the blind is flared upwardly and the outer corner thereof has secured thereto a strap '20 which is also secured to the second blind. This strap 20 also extends across the brow and holds the blinds 1'8 against flapping or displacement. This undue movement is further prevented by the extensions 19 secured to the nose strap 11.
Engaging the lower coupling rings 3 are the snaps 21 carried by the rings 22 of the bit 28. The rings 22 have also secured thereto the ends of a bridle strap 24.
From the foregoing description it will be readily observed that a combined halter and bridle is provided. When the same is to be used as a bridle the snap 16 is disengaged from the ring 13 and the snaps 21 of the bit are engaged with the lower coupling rings 3. \Vhen the device is to be used as a halter the reverse is in order.
hat I claim is:
A combined halter and bridle, comprising a pair of check straps having rings at their opposite ends, a crown strap engaging and coimecting the rings at the upper ends of the cheek straps a brow strap extending from the rings at the upper ends of the cheek straps and resting in a horizontal plane, a curved connecting strap adjacent each end of the brow strap and spaced from the rings to which the brow strap is secured the ends of said curved straps being fixed, respectively, to the crown strap and brow strap, a nose strap extending for wardly from the rings at the lower ends of the cheek straps, an adjustable chin strap extending rearwardly from the lower rings, a throat strap fixed at one end to one of the upper rings and having a snap hook at its opposite end adapted to engage the opposite upper ring, said throat strap being adjustable, a connecting strap extending from the chin strap to the throat strap, the lower end of said connecting strap having a snap thereon, a ring loosely mounted on the chin strap adapted to be engaged by said snap, blinds fixed to the forward edges of the cheek straps and extending substantially the 15 full length of the cheek straps, the lower ends of said blinds having extensions thereon, which extensions are attached to the nose strap a distance from the lower rings, the upper ends of said blinds being curved forwardly and upwardly, a connecting strap for the upper ends of said blinds and a bit detachably connected to the rings at the lower ends of the cheek straps.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of 4 two subscribing witnesses.
