' `Specification of Letters Patent.
Application tiled September 9, 1908. Serial No. 452,188.
Patented March 2, 1909.
To all 'whom it may concern.'
Beit known that l, WiLLnm H. BOOTH, a citizen of' the llnited States, residing at Santa Cruz, in the count)r of Santa Cruz and State ot' California, have invented new and useful lniprmeinents in l)rain-'l`iles, oi" which the following is a specilication.
'lhis invention relates to drain tiles and one ot the -prineipal objects of the saine is to provide a drain tile for forming gutters at the opposite sides of streets or roads, said tile, having opposit-ely disposed inclined llanges to direct the water to the tile, and said tile being provided with peiiorations atsuitable l intervals to peimit the water to pass into the tile and to prevent large particles ot' foreign matter trom entering the tile.
Another object of the invention is to provide a tile joint in which a cap is formed at one end to receive the end of one of the pipe sections of' the drain tile.
Still another object of the invention is to provide a drain tile of two sections divided longitudinally, the lowei` section having inclined llangcs to direct the. water to the tile and the upper section oi' said tile being pertorated at its base and htted to the lower section to exclude large particles from the tile..
lhese and other objects may be attained by means of' the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which:
Figure l is a perspective view of a drain tile section made in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is an end view ol the same. l `ig.`3 is a longitudinal-section.
lleierring to the drawing the numeral l designates the loWer'sec-tion otI the drain tile which is substantially st nnieirculai in cross section and provided at one side with a curb [lange 2 and at the opposite side with anhin` chned gutter lange 3, said llanges being. ot an)T suitable. width, depending upon the required area ol: 'the gutter. Formed upon one end ol the base member l is an oil'set seini- 1 circular l lange 4 provided with an outwardlyr extending ledge orv support 5 at one side and a short-er supporting ledge 6 at the opposite side, said ledge conforming to the inclinations l of the llanges 2 and 3 and being oilsetrom said ilanges to form supporting ledges for the flanges on the' next adjacent section of'the tile. 'l`he flanges 2 and 3 are each provided ently appear.
The upper section of the. tile' comprises the member S which m cross section forms a The section S at its lower edgesl is provided with suitable perlorations 0 which will permit thc water to llow from thellanges into l the drain tile. One end ol the section 8 is provided with a cap or llangc l() which forms a continuation of' the ilange i of section 1, said cap or ilange lt) being littcd into the recess T in the. ends ol" the. llanges 2 and 3. ltecesses l] nrc also ioi'in'cd in the llanges 2 and 3 at theire p posite ends to acommodate the lange 4 and cap l() on an :nljacentusection of the tile.
From the foregoing it will be obvious that a drain tile made in accordance with my invention'may be quickly laid, that the sections may be readily connected by placing I llange and uniting thc same by cement. lt
will also be apparent that the sections are all l supported with the ilanges.) and 3 at subl stantially the same inclination; thus pioviding a combined gutter and drain tile.
l claim: 1
' 1. A drain tile comprising sections each composed ol an upper and a lower member, one superposed upon the other,` the lower section being provided with oppositely inat its lower edges peri'oi'ations connnunicat ing with the interior ol ythe'. tile.
2. A drain tile eoniposml of .upier and lower sections divided longitudinally, the lower section comprising a semieircular member, and oppositel)v inclined llanges and an ollset at one end, `said tlanges being prol vided witlnrccesses, and an upper section i iitted to the lower section and provided with perforations which communicate with the interior' of the tile, said upper section being complete circle with thelower section 1.v
i I clined lianges and the upper section having with a recess 7 lor a pui-pose which will presthe smaller ends of the tile in the cap or elegge;
the interior of the tile, and an end cap fitted 10 into the recesses in the flanges of the lower section. y
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
VILLIAM Il: BOOTH.-
provided with e oep oi flange which forms e continuation of the ilenge of the lower see-y tion. 8. A drain tile comprising uaper and lower i 5 sections divided longitudinal the lower section having oppositely disposed flanges sind offset ledges, seid flanges being provided Witnesses: with recesses and en upper section provided l B. J. BLAISDELL, with perforations which communicate with A. W. WYMAN.
