WILLIAM RICHARD STITT, OF BELFAST, IRELAND.
SHUTTLE-POSITIONER FOR WEFT-REPLENISHING LOOMS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 17, 1908.
Application filed December 30, 1907. Serial No. 408,589.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM RICHARD STITT, British subject, and resident of Belfast, county of Antrim, Ireland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shuttle- Positioners for Weft- Replenishing Looms, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to that class or type of automatic loom in which when the weft thread breaks or becomes exhausted or nearly so a fresh pirn or cop is inserted in the shuttle and the carrier of the broken or spent pirn or cop expelled therefrom.
The invention will be fully described with reference to the accompanying drawings forming part of the specification in which sufiicient of a loom is shown to illustrate the invention.
Figure 1. plan of shuttle box of loom showing the invention applied thereto. Fig.
2. end elevation with shuttle box in section.
The shuttle box A and the mechanism for removing the spent pirn from and inserting a fresh cop of yarn into the shuttle A may be of any of the forms now known for automatic weft replenishing looms.
To the bracket B by which the cop magazine C is carried or to the loom gable or other stationary part of the loom I attach a shuttle positioner D which projects into the shuttle box A behind the picker E. The shuttle positioner is constructed of such a length as to extend to and remain within the shuttle box and of bifurcated form to embrace the picker spindle and with a projecting cam (Z on one side over which the picker E rides as the slay and shuttle box A move to and fro.
If the shuttle A has been driven too far into the shuttle box A the cam d engages the picker E and moves it back and with. it the shuttle A and insures of it being in the proper position opposite the magazine C to receive the pirn or weft carrier 0. If desired a spring or weight (not shown) may be applied to the picker to draw it back after each shot.
What I claim as my invention and desire to protect by Letters Patent is 1. In a loom for weaving the combination with automatic weft replenishing mechanism of a shuttle positioner affixed to the magazine or stationary part of the loom to project into the shuttle box of bifurcated form to embrace the picker spindle and with a cam projecting from one side to engage the picker and adjust the position of the shuttle after each shot of the shuttle or beat up of the loom substantially as described.
2. In an automatic loom the combination with the shuttle box A the cop magazine C and picker E of a shuttle positioner D bolted to a stationary part of the loom formed with a forked end to extend into the shuttle box and embrace the picker spindle and a cam cl thereon to engage the picker and adjust the shuttle substantially as described.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto signed my name in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
WILLIAM RIOHABD STI'IT.
