itc it known that l, BENJAMIN M. LAM- cian, a citizen of the United States, residing .u edar Bluil's, in the county of Saunders, and State of Nebraska, have invented new and useful Improvements in Telephonelrackots, of which the following is a specification.
'This invention relates to telephone brackets, and the object of the invention is to pro vide a comparatively simple cheap and effective device whereby a telephone may be readily secured in a suitable bracket attached to a lazy twigs which may bc expanded by a vIoot lever when the telephone is to be brought. into operative position and which is provided with mechanism wherebyr the lazy tongs are automatically' contracted to withdraw the telephone rearward to its normal position when the pressure upon the foot lever is released.
With these and other objects in view the invention resides in the'novel construction and arranvement of elements hereinafter fully described and claimed` In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of a device constructed in accordance with the present invention, parte being shown in section to more clearly illustrate .their arran ement. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal 4sectiona view of the attaching sleeve. Fig. 3 is a partial sectional view of fluupper portion of one of the telephone bracket securing clamp members and its conncclions. Fig. 4 is a rear elevation of a porlion of the lazy tongs illustrating the method of conducting the telephone wires.

interposed between the cap 12 and a shoul der provided within the lower portion ot thc sleeve 9, is a series of antiirictional bearings` which tend to lessen friction between the op eiating rod 8 and the sleeve t) when tbc sleeve is to be related upon the rod in a nianner hereinafter to be described. The clip 10 is provided with a rearwardly c lending ear 14, and the rod 8 is also provided with au adjustable collar having a rearwardly extending ear 1G. Secured lietween the cars 14 and lf3 is a helical spring 17. The collar l5 is rigidly secured upon the rod 8, and it will ,'loe noted that the spring 17 will have a tendency to force the rod 8 upward carrying' Withit the sleeve 4 and thereby clevatiiig the foot lever G so as to bring The latter into operative position. The upper extremity of the sleeve J may he provided with a suitable collar or bearing plate 1S, and this hearing plate-is provided lwith an annular depending flange adapted to engage a suitable recess or oieningpro vided in the sleeve. interposed loetween the lower face of this flange and the otlset provided by the recess is a series oi" ball bearings i9, which are adapted to coiiperate with the ball bearings provided by thel sleeve 12 to reduce the friction of the rod 8 when operat-v ing` within the sleeve and to assist the rotation of the rod in the sleeve when it is des sired to` revolve'thc base l to bring` the foot lever into a desired position by an' operator. ' i Positioned upon the rod S and adapted to hear against the plate 18 is a collar 20. This collar 20 is provided with a suitable ear or ol'set adapted for pivotal connection with the inner arm of a lazy tongs 21. The upper portion of the opposite inner arm of the lazy tongs is connected with a similar collar 22 which is securely retained u on the rod S through the medium of a threat ed element 23. 'lhe u )per portion of the rod may be provided wit i au integrally formed cap or llange 2l which will etl'cctively retard the upward movement of the collar 22. ln order to more securely retain the collar 22 upon the rod 8 a second collar 25 may provided. and this collar is ada )ted to be pr()- vided with a threaded ori ce whereby a threaded retaining element may etl'ectivcl he employed for securing the collar in position upon the rod. .interposed between the collars 25 and 2O is an adjustable Sto Incinher 2U, and it will be' noted that by epressing the foot, lever G the rod 8 will be drawn downwardly carrying with it the collar 23 thus extendiiw the lazy tongs 21, the limit of movement being regulated by the adjustable collar 26 contacting the collar 20. It will be also noted that when pressure is removed'froin the foot lever 6 the spring 17 engagiiw the collar 15 will force the rod 8 upwardlb thus reti-acting the lazy tongs.
The outer members of the lazy tongs 21 are each pivotally connected with suitable collars 27. These collars 27 are mounted upon a vertical rod 28, and the lower collar is provided with a suitable threaded ineinher Qt) hy which it. may be rigidly secured upon the rod 2H, while the upper collar 27 is free to ridethereon. The rod 2S is adapted to extend a suitable distance beyond the col lars 2T and these rojecting portions of the rod are adapted `or theireception of suitable bearing openings provided withinI the arms 30 of the telephone clamping device 3 This clamping device 31 comprises a central body portion adapted to engage the telephone and to be retained thereon through the medium of a thumb screw 38, while the arms' diverging from this central ortion have their extremities provided with the hearings by which the rod 28' is engaged. ly this arrangement it will be noted that the upper collar 27 is free to ride upon the. rod 28 when the lazy tongs 21 are extended and that the telephone clamp may be readily revolved upon its bearings so as to bring the telephone to a desired position with regard to the user. t
The lazy tongs 21 may be provided with central and end inwardly projecting eyes 34,4
and within these eyes the telephone wire 85 may be fed, thus preventing tangling of the wire as well as arranging it in a convenient position out of contact with the contents of the desk upon which the. device is positioned.
Having thus fully described the invention what is claimed as new is:
1. In a device of the character set forth, a sleeve secured upon a ledge, a rod within the` sleeve, means for operating the rod, a collar secured upon the rod, a second collar loosely mounted upon the rod and engaging the sleeve, a stop between the collars, a lazy tongs connected with the collars, and a telephone elamp secured to the lazy tongs.
In a device of the character set forth, a sleeve secured upon a ledge, a rod within the sleeve, a collar upon the rod. :i second collar loosely mounted upon the rod and engaging the sleeve, an adjustable stop between the collars, a lazy tongs connected with the eollars, a clamp connected with the lai/.y tonus.

3. In a device of the character described, a sleeve secured upon a ledge, a rod within 'the sleeve, means for operating the rod, a
