Wi ha @nu SAFE.
specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 10, 1908.
Application led July 8, 1908. Serial No. 441,852.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Beit known that I, LAWRANCE N. DAVIS, a citizen' of the United States, residing at Charlotte, in the county of Mecklenburg and State of North Carolina, have invented 'a the parts of `the safe being held set up' by. the'shelves, the top of the safe being closed by a panel having means to lpreclude entrance of rain or dust.
With the above and other` objects in view, as will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel construction and combination of parts of a knock-down safe, as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.
ln the accompanying 4drawings formin a part of this specification, and in which llke characters of reference indicate corresponding parts, Figure 1 is a view in perspective of the safe, showing certain of the parts thereof disconnected. Fig. 2 is a front elevation, partly in section ofthe safe.
The safe embodies a back' wall 1, a front wall 2, two end walls 3 and. 4, two shelves 5 and 6, anda top 7. rlhe back wall l has secured to its two longestedges two pairs of strips 8 and 9, each' pair of which constitutes one leg. The strips -9 are Aeach rovided with two orifices 10 to receive dowe pins 11 carried by the end walls 3 and 4. The front Wall 2, which also carries the doors 12 has secured to its two longest edges two pairs of strips 13 and 14, the strips 14 being pro- -vided with two orifices 15' to receive the dowel pins 11 carried bythe end Walls 3 and 4 in the same manner as the back wall. Each of the end walls is a counterpart of the other, and each has secured on its outer sides and its upper and lower ends two battens 16 and on its inner sides'two transverse Vbattens 17 that constitute rests for the shelves 5 and 6. The top 7 has secured to its under side two bands of molding 18 and v19 that are designed to fit snugly on the inner side and outside of the upper edges of the four walls, and thereby preclude entrance of moisture or dust from the top of the safe.
lln assembling thev parts of the safe, the dowel pins of the two end walls are brought into engagement with the orifices in the back and front walls, and the shelvesare then inserted to position, and by bearing against the inner faces of the end walls will serve to hold all of the arts ofthe structure securely assembled. e topis now positioned thus completing the setting up of the article. y
While not essential, screws or nails may be employed to secure the top in place, and thus measurably increase the stability of the article.
I claim:
1. A safe comprising back, front and end walls, certain of thewalls being provided with dowel pins to engage orifices in the other walls, shelf rests secured to the inner faces of the end walls, and shelves engaging the rests and operating to hold the structure set up.
.2. A safe embodying back, front and end walls, certain of theA walls being provided with dowelvpins to engage orifices in the other walls, rests secured in the inner surfaces of the end walls, shelves to engage the rests and bear against the end walls to hold thc structure assembled, and atop having spaced moldin to engage with the upper ends of the wal s.
ln testimony that l claim the foregoing as my own, l have hereto aflixed my signature in the presence of two Witnesses.
LAWRANCE N. DAVlS.
Witnesses:
R. J. DAVIS,
BLANCHE SCRoGGs.
