JAMES F. BOWLDS, OF WEBER, KENTUCKY, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO FRANK B. PULLIAM, OF PATESVILLE, KENTUCKY.
HORSE-LE G-G-ING.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 3, 1908.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES F. BowLns, a citizen of the United States, residing at Weber, in the county of Hancock, State of Kentucky, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Horse-Leggings; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in leggings for horses and it has for its object to provide leggings of novel construction.
The details of construction will appear in the course of the following description in which reference is had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, like characters of reference designating similar parts throughout the several views wherein,
Figure l is a side elevation showing the manner of use of the leggings constructed in accordance with the present invention, Fig. 2 is a developed plan View of a single member of a pair, and, Fig. 3 is a fragmentary section taken longitudinally through a legging.
Referring morespecifically to the accompanying drawings the numeral 1 designates generally the legging constructed of leather stock and formed at opposite sides with projecting straps 2 and 3, the straps 2 carrying buckles 4 and the straps 3 being formed with apertures 5 through which the tongues of the buckles are engaged. Along a line approximately central of the legging resilient metallic straps or strips 7 are provided to reinforce the leggings in use, the said straps extending vertically of the leggings and being secured by rivets 8. The straps 7 serve to prevent displacement of the leggings should any one of the fastening straps become loose or broken. In order that the strips 7 will not interfere with the animal when in applied position, it has been found best to diverge the strips upwardly as clearly shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings.
The leggings embodied in the present in vention are simple in their structural details, inexpensive to manufacture and practical and elficient in use.
From the foregoing description it will be seen that simple and efiicient means are provided for accomplishing the objects of the invention, but, while the elements herein shown and described are well adapted to serve the functions set forth it is obvious that various minor changes may be made in the proportions, shape and arrangement of parts without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
VVhat is claimed, is
A legging for horses, comprising a single piece of leather stock shaped to conform to substantially the entire length of the leg of a horse, spaced strap fasteners at the upper extremity of the stock, a single strap fastener at the opposite lower extremity of the stock, and resilient metallic braces secured JAMES F. 'BOWLDS,
