LIFTING-J'ACK.

To all whom it may concern: Be it known that I, VALLACE L. HARDY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Joliet, in the county of I/Vill and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lifting-Jacks, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.

This invention reates to improvements in lifting jacks, and the main object of my invention is the provision of a jack, in which the lifting bar is raised vertically, being guided in its upward and downward movements by a novel means, which has a peculiarly constructed supporting' frame, and operating lever.

To this end, my lifting jack embodies novel features of construction and combination of parts, substantially as disclosed herein.

In the accompanying drawings,-Figure 1 is a side elevation of the complete jack. Fig. 2 is a front elevation thereof. Fig. 3 is a rear elevation thereof.

Referring to the drawings,-the numeral 1 designates the base which has secured thereto and rising therefrom, the two vertical standards or supports 2, having' a short brace 4,and the long brace 5, passing' between the standards and has its upper end 6, projecting to the rear of the standards, thus forming a means whereby the arms 7, are pivoted and supported. To the free ends of the arms are pivoted the two members 8, of the yoked end of the handle or lever Q, the eXtreme ends of the yoked end being' pivotally secured to the notched or stepped lifting bar 10, intermediate of its lengtl'i. This lifting bar is adapted to slide vertically up and down between the standards above the brace 5, andl in order to assist in said vertical movement and properly guide the lifting bar, I employ the guide strips 11, the guide strip or pin 12, and the guide pin 13. The pin 13 clamps the upper ends of the standards together and passes through the elongated slot 3 of the notched bar 10, thus the notched bar Specification of Letters Patent.

From the foregoing description taken in connection with the drawings, it is evident that I provide a novel supporting frame, lifting' bar, and mechanism for raising and guiding the lifting bar in its vertical movement, the said construction being simple, durable and inexpensive in construction, thus producing a thoroughly efficient and practical lifting jack.

I/Vhat I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In a lifting jack, the combination of a base, a pair of standards rising therefrom, a long inclined support secured to the base and projecting rearwardly between the standards, a pair of arms secured to the upper pi'ojecting end of said support, a notched bar mounted between the upper ends of the standards and provided with an elongated slot, a pin securing the upper ends of the standards together and passing through the elongated slot of the notched bar to allow the bar to have a vertical movement, and an operating lever fulcrumed to said arms, and having one end pivotally connected to the bar.

2. In a lifting jack, the combination of a base, a pair of standards rising therefrom, a long inclined support secured to the base and projecting rearwardly between the standards, a pair of arms secured to the upper projecting end of said support, a notched bar slidably mounted between the upper ends of the standards and provided with an elongated slot, a pin securing the upper ends of said standards and passing through the slot in said notched bar, guide strips attached to said bar and engaging the fi'ont and rear edges of said standards to cause the bar to move vertically, and an operating lever' fulcrumed to said arms and having one end pivotally connected tosaid notched bar.
