Be it known that I, J ULIUs HEssLER, a citizen of the United' States, residing at Sheboy? gan, in the county of Sheboygan and State of Wisconsin, have invented a new and useful Shoe, of which the following is a speciiication. v

This invention relates generally to shoes, and more particularly to that class that are waterproo in character whereby to adapt them for use by lumbermen, surveyors, vand other persons whose vocations require them to travel over wet, muddy or inarshy grounds.

The object of the present invention is to provide a shoe of this character havin a novel form of tongue for closing the spacegbetween the ies in such manner as positively to preclude the entrance of water to the shoe and also to provide a ready means for permitting the attachment of fastening devices such as are commonly employed in connection with boots of this character in lieu of ordinaryl lacing strings.

With the above and other ob'ec'ts` in view as will vappear as the nature of t e invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel construction and combination of parts of a shoe, as willV be hereinafter fully described and claimed. l

The tongue is secured to the ily 3 by a single row of stitches 9, thus leaving that portion of the ily from the rear of stitches outward to its edge, free to be turned back, the object of this arrangement being to allowthe eyes 10 to be readily secured in .position and also to permit the renewal of the hooks and to enable a retail shoe dealer, who may keep the shoes in stock, to set the eyes nearer tothe Vedgeof the fly or further back according to whether the' wearer has thick or thin legs.
