Description
PATENTED SEPT. 1, 1908.
L. MATTHEWS. SPLASH PAN FOR BATHING TUBS.
UNITED STATES PATENT @FFIQE.
LUTHER MATTHEWS, OF PARIS, TENNESSEE.
SPLASH-PAN FOR BATHING-TUBS.
Application filed October 1, 1907.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LUTHER MATTHEWS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Paris, in the county of Henry and State of Tennessee, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Splash-Pans for Bathing- Tubs, and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
I have produced an improved splash-pan for bathing in which the pan formed of a flaring splash-guard, is adapted to be seated and held upon the edge of the tub which is surrounded by the splash-guard, so that the bather with his feet in the tub can bathe without splashing the water upon the floor, and my improvement resides in providing a fender-plate standing out from the lower edge of and beneath the splash-guard, whereby to form a seat and support for it upon the edge of the tub and to prevent the water from splashing over the top edge of the tub and down its outer walls upon the floor.
The fender-plate gives a firm support to the splash-guard upon the edge of the tub, and the advantage of using the splash-guard upon different sizes of tubs.
From the outer edge of the splash-guard, legs may depend and support it upon the floor, but the fender-plate will give a firm seating for the splash-guard.
In the accompanying drawings I have shown in Figure 1 the splash-guard in side elevation seated upon the edge of the tub. Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the same. Fig. 3 is a bottom view of the splash-guard.
The splash-guard is a circular plate with a central opening and formed with flaring sides 1, and of a size to receive the legs of the bather within a tub and having a seat 2, on the flaring side so that the bather may sit and bathe, the flaring guard conducting the splashed water back into the tub.
At the edge of the central opening in the splash-guard a plate 3, is secured, stands out beneath the flaring-guard, and forms a supporting seat for the bathing device upon the edge of the tub so as to form a closed joint Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 1, 1908.
Serial No. 395,409.
thereon to prevent the splashing of the water in the tub from passing over its edge and down its outer walls and upon the floor. A plurality of braces 4-, may connect the outer edge of the fender with the under side of the splash-guard and the outer edge of the latter plate may have legs 5, by which the device is supported upon the floor to give it rigidity and stability.
Obviously the seat may be dispensed with as the bather may sit on the flaring sides and as the edge of the fender opening and the inner edge of the splash guard are joined the edge forms an easy contact for the legs.
I claim:
1. As a new article of manufacture a tub bathing device formed of an open flaring splash guard and a seating sealing splash fender plate fixed to its under side and ex tending outward from the inner edge of the guard opening and forming thereby a seat for the guard upon the edge of the tub to prevent the splashin of the water over the edge of the tub and form a smooth edge at the guard opening.
2. In a bathing device, a splashing-guard formed with a central opening and flaring sides, a seat mounted thereon, and a fenderplate fixed to the under side of the splashguard and extending therefrom horizontally, and braces connecting the outer edge of the fender with the overhanging splashguard.
3. In a bathing-device, a splash-guard formed with a central opening and flaring sides, a seat mounted thereon, and a fenderplate fixed to the under side of the splashguard and extending therefrom beneath it, braces connecting "he outer edge of the fender with the overhanging splash-guard, and supporting legs connected to the outer edge of the splash-guard.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
LUTHER itl'ATTHEVVS.
Witnesses:
