F. L. SHORT.
- GIGAR HOLDER FOR HATS.
APPLIOATION FILED SEPT. 27, 1907.
hart 22% UNITED. STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRANK L. SHORT, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
CIGAR-HOLDER FOR HATS.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK L. SHORT, a citizen of the United States, and resident of St. Louis, Missouri, have invented-certain new and useful Improvements in Cigar-Holders for Hats, of which the following is a specification containing a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof.
My invention relates to a cigar holder for hats, my object being to construct a simple, inexpensive device which is adapted to be positioned in the crown of a hat, and which device acts as a holder for cigars, thus conveniently maintaining a supply of cigars in position where they will not become crushed or broken.
To the above purposes, my invention consists in cetain novel features of construction and arrangement of parts, which will be here inafter more fully set forth, pointed out in the claims, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of the cigar holder detached from the hat; Fig. 2 is a vertical section taken through the center of a hat, and showing the holder positioned therein; Fig. 3 is an enlarged section taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2, and showing a cigar positioned in the holder.
The holder, as shown, comprises a disk 1, of light, strong material, the same being secured to the center of a strap 2, which latter is of such length as that when its ends are seated beneath the sweat band of the hat, the disk 1 will occupy a position within the upper portion of the hat crown.
Positioned on the under side of the disk 1 is a series of cylindrical clips, which are approximately of inverted U-shape in cross section, said clips being constructed of resilient material, and of such size as that they will Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 25, 1908.
Application filed September 27, 1907. Serial No. 394,814.
readily hold a cigar when the same is forced between the lower ends of said clips. These clips are each formed 0 a su stantially rectangular plate of sheet metal, ach bent into cylindrical form, and. having the opposing edges bent outward to form flaring lips, and formed integral with the ends of said clips are prongs 4, which are clamped through the disk 1, thus rigidly fastening said clips to the disk.
The holder so constructed is positioned in the crown of a hat, as shown in Fig. 2, with the ends of the strap 2 arranged beneath the sweat band, and the cigars are now positioned in the clips 3, and are held thereby without danger of breakage.
A holder of my improved construction can be-very cheaply manufactured, can be readily placed in position or removed from a hat, and
COIlVGlllGIlillYhOltlS a supply of cigars in an outof-theway position.
I claim A cigar holder for hats, comprising an inverted U-shaped strap adapted to be detachably positioned within the crown of the hat, a disk rigidly fixed to the strap and occupying a position in the upper portion of the crown of the hat, a plurality of clips, each formed of a substantially rectangular plate of sheet metal, each bent into a cylindrical form, and having the opposing edges bent outward to form flaring lips, and provided with integral prongs formed to project from the end of the cylinder, which prongs are clamped through the disk.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification, in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
FRANK L. SHORT.
