WILLIAM BAKER, OF OAVEltSl-LAM, NEAR READING, ENGLAND.
TARGET AND BULLET-CATCHER FOR USE WITH AIR-GUNS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
` Patented March 24, 1908.
Application filed May 14, 1907. Serial No. 373,639.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, WILLIAM BAKER, a subject of the King of Great Britain, and residing at Oaversham, near Reading, in the county of Oxford, England, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Targets and Bullet-Catchers for Use with Air-Guns, of which the follow ing is a specication, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to what are known as box targets, and the objectthereofI is to provide 4an improved device of this class by means of which the bullets entering the same are collected and may be used over again; a further object being to provide a device of this class which is simple in construction and comparatively inexpensive, and which may be conveniently manipulated.
The invention 'is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawing forms a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which Figure l is a front elevation of my improved target; Fig. 2 a side elevation thereof; Fig. 3 a front and back sectional view; and, Fig. 4 a perspective front view of my improved target in its complete form.
ln the practice of my invention, as shown in the drawing, l provide a box which is preferably rectangular in form, and to the top of which is secured pins a. designed for holding a paper or other target proper in position over the front of the box until the detachable frame d for holding said paper target in place is connected with the box. The box is provided at the back and top portion thereof with an eye l) by which the target box may be suspended from any suitable support, and the frame d is provided across the front bottom portion thereof with a front stop c, and the box is provided across the front top portion thereof with a back stop e, and, in practice,V
the frame d is simply slipped onto the box as shown in the drawing and the stops c and e limit the backward movement thereof. ln the back portion of the box is placed a buffer g of any suitable padding for stopping the bullets, and in the bottom portion of the box is placed a drawer f for catching the bullets.
Having fully described my invention, what l claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A target comprising a box open at the front, means for suspending a fiexible target across the front opening, a detachable frame adapted to be slipped on over the front of the box and to hold the target in position, and stop devices to limit the backward movement of said frame on said box comprising a bar secured to the top of the box adjacent to the front thereof and another bar secured to the front bottom portion of the box.
2. A target comprising a box open at the front, hooks at the top of the box for sus pending a iiexible target across the front opening, and a detachable frame adapted to be slipped on over the front of the box and to hold the target in position, said box and said frame being provided with stops to limit the backward movement of the frame on `the box.
3. A target comprising a boxopen at the front, means for suspending a flexible target across the front opening, a detachable frame adapted to be slip ed on over the front of the box and to hc d the target in position, and stop devices connected with the box and with said frame for limiting the backward movement of the same, said box being also provided in the back thereof with a cushion and in the bottom thereof with a drawer.
4. A target comprising a box o en at the front, means for suspending a iiexlble target across the front opening, a detachable frame adapted to be slipped on over the front of the box and to hold the target in position, and stop devices to limit the backward movement of said frame on said box comprising a bar secured to the top of the box adjacent to the front thereof and another bar secured to the front portion of the frame, said box be ing also provided in the back thereof with a cushion and in the bottom thereof with a drawer.
5. A target comprising a box open at the front, hooks at the top of the box for suspending a flexible target across the front opening, and a detachable frame adapted to In testimony that I claim the foregoing as be slipped on over the front of the box and my invention fl have signed my name in pres- 10 to hold the target in position, Said box and ence of the subscribing Witnesses this twentysaid frame being provided with stops to l seventh day of April, 1907.
limit the backward-movement of the frame l ILLIAM BAKER. on the box, and said box being also provided VVitneSses: in the back thereof with e cushion and in the JOHN LANoELoT MARTIN,
bottom thereof with a drawer. ALBERT WILLIAM ROURKE.
