INVENTOH fizzyasonjf-Browfl/ ATTORNEYS WITNESSES PATENT OFFICE.
SAMPSON H. BROWN, OF LOCKHART, TEXAS.
TAG.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented March 17, 1908.
Application filed May 6, 1907. Serial No. 372,242,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMPSON H. BROWN, citizen of the United States, and a resident of Lockhart, in'the county of Caldwell and State of Texas, have invented a new and Improved Tag, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to tags, and it is particularly useful in connection with price tags and the like, for dry goods.
The object of the invention is to provide a simple, strong and inexpensive tag for indicating sizes, prices and the like for dry goods and other material usually sold from rolls or bolts. I
A further object of the invention is to provide a tag adapted to be secured firmly to a bolt or roll by means of an adhesive, with a body upon which indicating characters are ibnscribed, arranged at the end of the roll or olt.
The invention consists in the construction and combination of parts to be more particularly described hereinafter and fully set forth in the claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanyings drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of the end of a bolt of cloth, showing the price tag of' my invention applied thereto; Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the end of a bolt of cloth showing the tag in cross-section as attached to the bolt-board; and Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the tag.
Before proceeding to a more detailed explanation of myinvention it should be understood that it is of advantage to have a price tag firmly secured to a bolt or roll of cloth Without actual attachment to any part of the cloth, as the unrolling of the latter would disturb the tag. It is customary to furnish cloth to retail merchants, in the form of bolts or rolls which are formed upon a central core or bolt-board to stiffen the roll and to facilitate the forming of the same. I provide a tag with an attaching member adapted to be secured directly to the bolt-board, the body of the tag upon which the indicating char acters are inscribed having a hinge connection with the attaching member. The attaching member has its hinged extremity projecting beyond the edge of the bolt-board,
so that the tag body is free to swing at the end of the bolt in plain view and without interfering in any way with the unrolling of the cloth from the bolt.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 represents a bolt-board upon which the cloth or other material 2 is wound to constitute a bolt. The tag body 3 may be of common or preferred form and is adapted to have the indicating characters inscribed upon the face thereof in the usual manner. The tag may be of paper, metal or any other suitable material. A band .4 of similar material has the ends secured by gluing or in any other manner, to the opposite faces of the tag body at an edge thereof, and presents at the bend a sleeve 5. The attaching memtongue and has at one end a band 7 with the extremities secured at opposite faces of the tongue and presenting at the edge of the same a sleeve 8. A link or shackle 9 loosely mounted in the sleeves 5 and 8 forms a hinge connection between the body and the attaching member. The attaching member is preferably of card-board, but may be of any common or preferred material. The shackle .9 is preferably formed from wire.
The attaching member or tongue 6 is provided with a coating of adhesive material 10 which may consist of glue or any other suitable substance adapted to harden and to provide an adhesive when moistened. One or both faces of the member 6 may be provided with the adhesive material. It will be un derstood that if desired, the attaching member 6 may be secured to the bolt-board I by means of the adhesive with which it is provided or it may be positioned upon the same or secured in any other way. Preferably, the tag is applied to the bolt by inserting the moistened attaching member 6 between the bolt-board and the next adjacent winding of the cloth. A slight pressure upon the cloth above the member will firmly attach the same to the bolt-board by means of the adhesive coating with which it is provided.
Having thus described my invention I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
A tag comprising a body having a sleeve, an attaching member consisting of a single strip and resenting an adhesive surface, said attaching member being adapted to be inserted between a bolt-board and the roll ber 6 is preferably in the form of an elongated thereupon at one side of the board, a strip In testimony whereof I have signed my bent upon itself and having the ends secured I name to this specification in the presence of at the opposite sides of said attaching memtWo subscribing Witnesses.
ber near one extremity thereof whereby is v SAMPSON H. BROWN. 5 formed a sleeve at the end of said member, Witnesses:
and a shackle loosely mounted in said sleeves A. D. M. WOLFF, and connecting said body and said member. l B. L. H. BROWN.
