GERTRUDE GROMER, or NEW YORK, N. Y.
SKIRT-SUPPORTER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 25, 1908.
Application filed April 20. 1907- Serial No. 369.368.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, GER'RRUDE GRoMnR, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Skirt-Supporters, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is an improved device to be worn about the waist and employed to lift a skirt from the ground and which when not in use is not likely to become lost as hereinafter described in the following specification set forth in the claims and illustrated in the drawings, where like reference numerals are used to designate the same parts in the several figures.
Figure 1 is a view illustrating the use and Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the device. Fig. 3 is a modified form of the same.
Serious inconvenience is experienced by the users of these devices in consequence of the liability of loss and for the purpose of overcoming this difficulty the skirt holder which is shown in the drawings is provided with a belt or'ba-nd 5 having a ring 6 at one end while its other end is secured to the head 7 of the holder. worn around the waist of the user and the ring 6 is caught over a hook 8 attached to the head.
8 Depending from the-head 7 is a shank 9 carrying at its lower end two spring members 10 having on their lower ends, knobs 1 1 which are designed to grasp the dress without tearing or otherwise injuring the dress. The upper ends of the'members 10 are toothedor serrated as at 12 and embracing'these upperends is a ring 13 which is engaged by the teeth as the knobs 11 are pressed inward and it is designed to adjust them to the thickness of the material gras ed.
The head 7 and t e shank 9 may be orna-.
m'ented or decorated so as to present a neat and tasty appearance and be a means of ornament to t e dress of the wearer. It may be made of metal and decorated and chased to consist of an ornament of value.
In the modifications shown in Fig. 3 the spring members are made of one continuous piece andthe upper end or point of union This band is designed to be may consist of a coil 14 to be secured to the shank 9 while the lower ends cross each other as at 15 and carrying on their lower ends their knobs for the protection of the skirt of the wearer. r
The device may be,made of spring steel in order to secure a resilient action by the knobs while the upper portion may be made of softer metal or other material and to. the modified form is alsosecured a cord or band by which the device may be hung from the waist of the user. 7
It is obvious that various 0ther m0difica tions may be resorted to in the construction of the device Without departing from the essential features above described.
VVhatI claim asnew and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A skirt holder comprising a head with one end of a supporting cord or the like secured thereto, means on the-head for attaching the other end of the cord, a shank depending from said head, and spring arms aving their upper ends connected together and attached to said shank, the lower ends of said spring arms being normally pressed together to enable a skirt to be grasped between them, for the purpose set forth.
2. A skirt holder comprising a head with one end of a supporting cord or the like secured thereto, means on the head for attach-' ing the other endof the cord, a shank depending from said head, spring arms having their u per ends connected together and attached said spring arms being normally pressed together to enable a skirt to be asped between them, the up er portions of aid spring arms being provi ed with teeth on their outer sides, and a band connecting the upper portions of said arms and coacting with said teeth to press the-lower ends of said arms against the skirt to secure the same between them.
' In testimony whereof, I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
