To all whom it may concern:

l 3e it known that I, JULIUS A. RAITH, a c tizen of the United States, residing at the clty of Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a certain new and useful Hinge, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to hinges, and while being applicable to various objects designed to be hinged, it is particularly adapted for bar fixtures.

It is customary to have attached to the rear of the bar of a saloon a housing or chest adapted to contain the necessary accessories suitable for such a business. This housing is provided with a lid that is hinged to the bar and it is desirable that the hinge or hinges shall not project above the level of the bar and lid top. As the bar is usually a highly polished and expensive piece of wood, it is desirable that the same shall not be marred by countersinking the same for the recep tion of hinges.

The principal object of the present invention is to provide a neat, simple, and comparatively inexpensive hinge that shall lie flush with the hinged parts, and which may be applied without countersinking the same, and which will offer no obstructing parts.

A further object of the invention is to provide a hinge of the above character having a spacer or separator against which the flaps of the hinge abut when in normal position to prevent sagging of the hinged part.

The invention consists of the improvements hereinafter described and finally claimed.

The nature, characteristic features and scope of the invention will be more fully understood from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings forming part hereof and in which:

In the drawings, the hinge is shown as comprising a pair of independent leaves a, whereof one of said. leaves is adapted to be fixed and the other movable, arranged in parallelism. The outer faces I), of these leaves are flat and the inner faces 0, are provided with a plurality of inwardly extended and oppositely disposed knuckles d, having pintle openings e, therethrough. This connecting link has a flat outer surface i, that is adapted to come flush with the outer parts of the hinge when in normal position, that is, when the part to be hinged is in closed position. This link is also provided with an inwardly extended lug 9, comprising a spacer or separator against which the inner faces of the leaves abut when in normal position to prevent sagging of the hinged or movable part. ed to be used for numerous purposes, but it is particularly adapted for bar fixtures, and in Figs. 4 and '5 of the drawing, its application thereto is illustrated. In said figures the bar 7c, is shown as being provided at the rear thereof with the usual housing Z, having thereon a lid m. The fiat faces of the leaves fit against and are screwed fast to the meeting edge of the bar and lid thus obviating the necessity of marring the top of the bar, which is usually a highly polished and expensive piece of fixture. By referring to Fig. 5, it will be observed that the upper or exposed part of the knuckles, link, bar, and lid are all in the same plane and no obstructions of any character are present. This is important in the dispensing of liquid refreshment over the bar for the reason that if obstructions are present, the glasses used in the business are apt to become nicked by continual coming in contact therewith or else the contents thereof are partially spilled. The spacer or separator is likewise important in this respect in that it serves to prevent sagging of the lid and keeps the top of the same upon a level with the top of the bar.
