To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, CARL COLFELT and ROBERT OOLFELT, citizens of the United States, and residents of Sherwood, Washington county, State of Oregon, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Choker- Hooks for Hauling Logs, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings as constituting a part thereof.

This invention relates to the cable which is looped around a log for the urpose of fastening the same to the hauling cable, by which the log is to be dragged along the ground; and our invention has for its object to so contrive the choker-hook and to combine means therewith as to render the same more convenient to use, and also to so arrange the parts that when once the chokerhook has been adjusted on the log it cannot come accidentally undone.

Our invention to this end comprises the arrangement and combination of parts illustrated in the drawings above referred to, in which,

Figure 1 is an elevation of our choker-hook complete, showing how the same would be arranged when encircling a log to be hauled thereby; and Fig. 2 is an elevation of what we term the link-and-hook, constituting a part of our, choker-hook; this figure also illustrating that a portion of the link-and-hook is removable, so as to facilitate the placin of said lmk-and-hook u on, and the remova of the same from the c oker-line.

Describing now, specifically, the parts enterlng into the construction of our invention, and referring to the reference letters in the drawmgs: that portion of our invention which comprises what we.have termed the l1nk-and-hook consists of a yoke a, rovided with a pivoted bar I), and a swive c, said parts I) and c constituting a sort of universal oint. To the swivel c is fas'tened a chainnk d, and to the latter is secured a hook e. The point of th'e-hook e is made with lateral fluke-like rojectionsf, f, to prevent the accidental re ease of the eye 9 of a cable h. The cable It can be made of any convenient length, usually about thirty feet, and is provided at 1ts opposite end with another eye g. The

In hauling the choker-line back into the woods, preparatory to hauling further logs, the eye 9 of the choker-line, being detached from the hook-member f, is then fastened to the hauling cable, and is pulled back with the latter. The edges are made fiarin so as to cause the sleeve y' to run more readi y on the choker-line h. To rovide for the case of a break in a chokerme, a spare choker-line, like h, should be on hand, to which our device can be readily attached as described. If there should be a break in the link-and-hook part, the choker-line h would not have to be cut and s oiled to remove the broken part, but the atter would quickly be removed from the line and another link-and-hook substituted in its place.

We claim:

1. In a choker-hook, the combination with a choker-cable having eyes formed at its ends, of a clip-like sleeve made with perforated extremities, a yoke removably pivoted to said extremities, a bar pivoted in said yoke, a swivel-eye pivoted in said bar, and a linkand-hook attached to said swivel-eye.

2. A link-and-hook adapted to be used in connection with a choker-cable and comprising in combination a clip-like sleeve adapted to be placed on said choker-cable and made with perforated extremities, a yoke removably pivoted in said extremities of the sleeve, a bar pivoted in said yoke, a swivel-eye pivoted in said bar, and a link-and-hook attached to said swiveleye.
