PATENT OFFICE.
JETER M. GLASS, OF PITTSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA.
REVOLVING BOOK-SUPPORT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 19, 1908.
Application filed August 28, 1907. Serial No. 390,426.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J ETER M. GLAss, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Revolving Book-Supports, of which the following' is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to revolving book supports and its primary object, is, to pro vide a device of this character especially designed for supporting hotel registers.
A further object of the invention is, to provide a removable hotel register support with an attachment of novel construction adapted to contain advertising matter.
A still further object of the invention is, to provide a revoluble support for hotel registers with receptacles to contain an ink-well, tooth picks and matches.
The construction of the improvement will be fully described hereinafter, in connection with the accompanying drawing which forms a part of this specification, and its novel features will be set forth in the appended claims.
In the drawingi-Figure 1 is a top plan view of the improved holder with a register resting thereon, Fig. 2 is a vertical section, Fig. 3 is a central vertical section partly broken away, Fig. 4 is a top plan view of the supporting base of the revoluble holder, and Fig. 5 is a bottom plan of the revoluble plate employed.
The base of the holder is of spider form, and comprises a hub 1 and a ring 2 connected to the hub l by radial arms or spokes 3. Projecting from the periphery of the ring2 are a series of equi-distant lugs 4 formed on their under sides with sockets 5 to receive rubber disks 6 which extend below the sockets and'serve as feet to support the base. The hub l is formed on its upper side with a circular groove 7 of semi-circular cross section serving as a race-way for anti-friction balls 8, said balls fitting semi-circular depressions 9 formed on the under surface of a circular plate 10. This plate 10 is formed with radially projecting perforated lugs 1.1 and secured by screws 12 to the under side of a rectangular table 13. The plate 1() is centrally pivoted upon the hub 1 by a pivot screw 14. To the upper end of the table 13 is secured a cleat 15 provided with a central recess 16 and two end recesses 17 and 18. The central recess 16 is designed to contain an ink-well 19 while the outer recesses are designed as a tooth pick holder, and a match receptacle respectively. The lower edges of the table 13 is provided with an upwardly projecting flange 20 to prevent the hotel register which rests on the table from slipping down as the table is revolved.
The utility and operation of the improvement as thus far described will be readily understood. The table 13 is easily turned upon the pivot 14 thus avoiding the lifting of the register by hand.
Secured to the lower side of the cleat 15 is a channel bar 22 slotted along its front face nearly throughout its length. Within this channel bar is a rod 23 provided with eyes 24 which project through the slot in the channel-bar and are loosely connected by links 25 to loops 26 projecting from a sheet metal rectangular frame 27. Said frame corresponding in size to the pages of the register, and being of U-shape in cross section to receive Celluloid sheets 28 and 29 between which any suitable advertising matter 30 may be placed so as to be visible from either side of the frame. The frame 27 rests upon the pages of this register and the loose link connection between it and the rod 23 permits the frame to accommodate itself to the varying thickness of the leaves of the book. The frame may be moved over from one side of the register to the other, and when it is necessary to turn a page of the register the frame may be raised away from the book as will be apparent.
I preferably provide the table 13 with a covering 31 of felt or other suitable material and the upper surface of the cleat 15 is provided with elongated grooves 32 and 33 to afford rests for pens and pencils.
I would have it understood that the invention includes all such modifications and variations in the details of construction as may fall within the terms and scope of the following claims.
Having fully described my invention what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is,
1. In a revoluble book-holder, the combination with a base, of a table revoluble therein, a cleat secured to the upper side of said table, a slotted channel bar secured to said cleat, a rod movably supported within said channel bar, a frame, and coupling means loosely connected to the frame and loosely connected to said rod.
. In a revoluble book holderI the eo1nbeyes of seid rod With those of the frame, and 10 nation With a base of a table reyolubly suptransparent sheets nolosed by said frame.
ported on seid base, a vcleat secured to the up- In testimony whereof I affix my signature per side of seid table, a slotted channel-bar in the presence of tWo Witnesses. secured to sald cleat, a rod moyably mounted JETER M GLASS.
Within said channel bar and provided With eyes projecting through the slot on the ehan- Witnesses:
nel ber, a rectangular frame provided with MAX H. SRoLoVITz, eyes at its upper end, links connecting the C. V. BROOKS.
