Referring now to the accompanying drawing, in which like numerals of reference indicate like parts throughout the several views: Figure l is vertical sectional view of a stake constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a view in elevation of the stake arranged in the ground, and Fig. 3 shows a slightly modified form of stake for use in rocks, stone walls or the like, or where long stakes can not be'used to advantage.
Reference numeral 1 indicates the body of my improved stake, the same being preferably hollow and formed in its upper portion with a support 2. Above support 2 body 1 is provided with a compartment 3 whose wall is threaded for reception of an externally threaded plug 4, forming a part of the (losure 5 which extends entirely across the upper end of body 1 and has its lower face provided with a depending bead 5 fitting about the upper portion of said body as clearly illustrated in Fig. 1.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented April 28, 1908.
Bodyl can be formed of any}? desired mate rial, closure 5, however is forn ed of glass or any other suitable material which will render the closure transparent.
l The record of the stake can be placed on a piece of cardboard or other suitable material, as 6, and this is arranged in compartment 3 on support 2, as shown, where it can be readily observed through the transparent closure 5, as will be readily understood.
Whit-o lead, cement, wax or the like can be employed, as at 7 for making a waterproof joint between the closure 5 and body 1.
l in Fig. 3 l have illustrated a body 1, adapted primarily for being mounted in stone or in such places where a stake of the construction previously described cannot l be driven, said body being enlarged at its lower end portion and secured in position as by cementitious composition 8 packed I thereabout.
l llaving thus described my invention, what l 1 claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States of America, !-is: l. A stake comprising a body formed in its 5 upper portion with a compartment, and a transparent closure on the upper end portion of sa1d body for closing t is said com- 1 partment thereof, said closure having a depending portion fitting about the upper portion of said body.
2. A stake comprising a body formed with a compartment, a support in said compartment, and a removable transparent closure l for the compartment of said body. Signed at Seattle, Washington, this th l day of October 1907.
