Description

, PATENTED APR. 14, 1908. c. B.DIOKERSON. SUS'PENDER- HOOK AND DRAWERS SUPPORT.
APPLICATION FILED AUG. 21, 1907.

CORNELIUS B. DIOKERSON, OF POWHATAN, WEST VIRGINIA.
SUSPENDER-HOOK AND DRAWERS-SUPPORT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented April 14, 1908.
Application filed August 21, 1907. Serial No. 389,594.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CORNELIUS B. DICK- ERSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Powhatamin the county of McDowell and State of West Virginia, have invented a new and useful Suspender-Hook and Drawers-Support Combined, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to garment su porters and its object is to provide a simp e, durable, and eflicient device of this character designed to be secured to trousers and having integral but separate means for engaging suspenders and drawers whereby the same may be held in proper relation to one another without causing discomfort to the wearer.
A still further object is to provide a device of this character which is formed in a single piece of metal, which can be manufactured cheaply, and which can be readily attached to or detached from the suspenders or drawerswith which it is used.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists of certain novel features of construction and combinations of parts which will be hereinafter more fully described and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompan ing drawings is shown the preferred form 0 the invention.
In said drawings: Figure 1 is an elevation of the supporter, the same being shown in use. Fig. 2 is a detail view of the blank from which the supporter is formed. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section through the supporter and showing the sup lemental strap used in connection therewit for attaching it to trousers.
Referring to the figures b characters of reference, 1 designates an elongated metal stri provided adjacent its center with opposite y extending ears 4 each of which is provided with an aperture 5 so that the same can be conveniently sewed to a garment. Elongated parallel slots 6 are formed within the strip between these cars and a transverse bar 7 is thus produced for the pur oses hereinafter set forth. Ears 3 exten laterally from the baseportion 2 of the strip 1' and each of them is provided with openings 5 for the reception of stitches and located between these ears 3 and integral with the strip 1 is a hook 9 which overhangs the adjoining portion of the stri 1 and is channeled in the direction of its ength as indicated in Figs. 2 and 3 so that the same is reinforced and presents a rounded lower surface designed to bear within the strap 14 of a pair of suspenders.
The end portion 16 of the strip 1 extends from the bar 7 in a direction opposite to the end portion 2 and is designed to be folded as indicated at 10 so as to extend substantially parallel with the base portion 2 of the strip 1. This end portion 16 constitutes a tongue, the longitudinal edges of which are curved as indicated at 11 and 12 and merge to form a rounded end which is struck inwardly to form a depression 13 into which the end of hook 9 is designed to project.
In using the device herein described the base portion 2 is secured to the waist band of trousers by sewing through the openings 5 and if desired it may be additionally fastened thereto by extending a fabrictape 8 through the slots 6 and around bar 7 as indicated at 3, the ends of said tape being sewed to the trousers. The ton ue 16 may then be placed in engagement with the supporting strap 15 of drawers simply by placing said strap back of the terminal of tongue 16 and on the hook 9 whereu on the tongue 16 will spring away from hooli 9 and permit the stra to assume a position within the fold 10. he strap 14 of suspenders can then be similarly placed in engagement with the hook 9 whereupon the parts will be assembled as indicated in Fig. 1.
hould it be desired to detach the suspender strap from hook 9 the same is swung laterally into position substantially at ri ht an gles to the tongue 16 and then presse downward so that the u per portion of the eye in the stra will slip cibwn off of hook 9 and between tfie base portion 2 and the tongue 16. The strap will thus become detached. To disconnect the strap 15 from the supporter one end thereof is ulled upward over the hook 9 and then pu led downward between it and the end of ton ue 16 whereupon said strap will likewise be disconnected.
It will be seen that this supporter is very simple, durable, and efiicient, can be readily placed in position, and when once secured doesnot require the use of separate pieces for securin or releasing the parts engaged thereby. t is formed in a single piece of s rin -metal and inasmuch as it can be prouce at a single operation it will be ap arent that the same can be manufacture at extremely small cost.
What is claimed is:
A garment supporter formed in a single piece of spring metal and comprising a base havin laterally extending ears for the recep l the bar, the terminals of said. strip being dis tion 0? securing means, said base having parposed to be fastened to a garment. allel slots formmg a transverse bar, a hook at In testimony that I claim the foregoing as one end of the base and lapping the same, my own I. have hereto allixed my signature 5 said hook being conoavo-convlex in transin the presence of two Witnesses.
