To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, FRANK E. DERGE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Eau Claire, in the county of Eau Claire and State of Wisconsin, have invented a new and useful Cigar-Package, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to cigar packages.

The object of the invention is to provide a novel and thoroughly eflicient form of container for cigars, the same being adapted to retain the cigars in the best possible condition for sale, to expose them to view when desired for purpose of inspection, and to maintain their flavor for an extended period.

With the above and other objects in view as will appear as the nature of the invention .is better understood, the same consists, gen

erally stated, in a cigar holder or package comprising a receptacle of vitreous material having the general contour of a mug or socalled stein, the sides or body of the holder being outwardly flared from the mouth downward to'such an extent as to permit of cigars being placed therein with all of their tuck ends down, thereby to facilitate the removal of the cigars, and further to protect the tuck ends against liability of being injured by handling.

In addition to the above feature of novelty, there is provided a'moisture and dust proof lining which entirely incloses the contained cigars, and serves further as a seal to prevent surreptitious removal of one or more of the same.

In addition to the above stated novelties, there is a further one, namely, the provision of a dust and moisture proof closure which is folded down around the outer portion of the mouth of the holder and is retained. in place by an elastic band and by the stamp, the band permitting the turning back of the closure without breaking the stamp, thereby to permit a limited inspection of the contents of the holder.

Further and more specific details of construction will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification and in which like characters of reference indicate correspondingparts,Figure 1 is a view in perspective of a cigar holder constructed in accordance with the present invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical transverse sectional view, displaying the manner in which the cigars are disposed within the holder, and further the moisture and dust proof envelop with which they are inclosed, together with the closure and elastic assembling band therefor.

The holder 1 is of the general contour of a stein or mug, is provided with a suitable handle 2 and is made of any suitable material, preferably one that is vitreous. As shown in Fig. 2, the sides of the holder flare outwardly from the mouth and the degree of flare will be determined by the shape of the cigars that the holder is to contain, the object of the flare being to permit allof the tuck ends T of the cigars C to rest upon the bottom 3 of the holder as shown. The cigars, prior to being positioned within the holder, or afterwards, as may be preferred, are inclosed in an envelop 4-or any suitable dust or moisture proof material, preferably velop being fo ded over upon the tip endsof the cigars, as at 5, thus not only to preclude the entrance of dust to the contents but also to retain the natural moisture of the cigars and also their flavor. As will be obvious, the envelop will be air proof, and this will be an advantage inasmuch as with certain grades of cigars a flavoring material may be sprinkled upon the bottom wall of the envelop, and this will permeate the inclosed cigars and materially enhance their value. After the cigars have been positioned in the manner described a closure 6 of heavy paper is placed over the mouth of the receptacle, and embraces the sides thereof, and is held in place by an elastic band 7, the object of this arrangement being to permit the closure to be partly detached and turned back so as to allow access to be had to the tip ends of the cigars for purpose of inspection.

The closure and band 7 are prevented from being bodily removed from the holder by the stroying the stamp, so that in the use of the article all of the revenue requirements will be filled.

A further advantage attending the employment of this form of package or retainer for cigars is that it presents a prize feature and also serves as an advertising novelty,

and if the brand of cigars.be at all popular and its name be indelibly displayed upon the holder, the latter will always serve as an advertiser so long as it remains intact.

The improvements herein defined are simple in character, will be found to secure the objects sought in a ready and practical manher, and owing to the cheapness of the holder itslemployment in use will not be obj ectionab e.

What is claimed is A package comprising a moisture proof cylindrical holder flared outward from its mouth to its bottom, cigars arranged within the holder with all of their tuck ends downward, a moisture and dust proof envelop inclosing the cigars and having its upper ends folded over upon the tip ends thereof, a clo sure for the mouth of the holder, an elastic band for temporarily holding the closure in position, and a stamp secured over the elosure, band, and to the holder.
