'1 MATO FITZMAURICE MALONEY, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
HAT-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 11, 19 08.
Application filed May 2'7. 1907- Serial No. 375.951.
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, MA'ro F. MALONEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of 5 Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hat-Holders; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention has relation to new and useful improvements in hat holders, and is especially ada ted for use in large assembly halls or the li re, and the object of my invention is the production of a simple, economical and novel device of this character adapted to be secured in place under a seat 1alnd be readily accommodated to any sized With the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as will be more fully described and particularly pointed out in the ap ended claims.
n the accompanying drawings :Figure 1 is an edge view of a hat holder constructed in accordance with my invention secured under the seat of a bench, and partly broken away; and Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the hat holder.
Referring now more particularly to the drawings, the numeral 1 represents my improved hat holder, which is constructed of one continuous piece of wire 2 of copper or other suitablematerial, having a sufficient spring or resiliency to carry out the object of my invention. In the construction of my invention, said wire 2 is bent at one end to form an eye or loop 3, is then extended horizontally forward a suitable predetermined distance, when it is bent under and extended rearwardly asuitable distance, and bent to form a transverse coil 4, extended rearwardly at its outer end to form an outwardly, curved rearwardly extending inner side wire 5. Said wire is then bent outwardly and inwardly to form an eye or loop 6, for the purpose to be hereinafter shown, and is then extended forwardly approximately parallel with said rearwardly extending side wire 5 to provide an outer side wire 7, which extends a suitable distance beyond said transverse coil 4; when it is bent to form a large transverse coil 8 The endof said coil 8 opposite said outer side wire 7 is then extended rearward. to provide an outer outwardly curved rearwardly extending side wire 9. Said wire is then bentoutward and inward. to form a suitable eye or loop 10, and is then extended forward approximately parallel said outer side wire 9 to provide an inner side wire 11, which is bent at its inner or front end to form a transverse coil 12, located immediately opposite said transverse coil 4. The remaining end of said wire is then wrapped around the horizontal portions of the first mentioned end of the wire, and unites therewith to provide a supporting member 13 for supporting the hat holder in position, the extreme end of the last mentioned end of said wire being bent to form an eye or loop 14. (See Fig. 2.)
The numeral 15 represents a fastening member for the free ends of the side wires of my improved hat holder, which member is constructed of one continuous piece of wire, bent at one end to form a hook 16, and passed partly through one of the eyes at the free ends of the side wires, when it is bent 0 back on itself and its ends wrapped around each other. Said fastening member serves to hold the free ends of the side wires of the holder together after a hat has been secured in position.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters-Patent, is:
1. A hat holder made from one continuou piece of resilient'wire having inner and outer 9o horizontal side wires, a horizontal supporting member and a number of transverse coils extending at right angles to said side wires and adapted to normally hold them apart and means for detachably connecting the free ends of said wires.
2, A hat holder made from one continuou piece of wire having side wires, a horizontal supporting member, and a number of coils extending at right angles to said side wires and adapted to exert a pull on their inner ends, and a fastening member adapted to connect the opposite ends of said side wires.
3. A hat holder of the character described, made from a resilient element having outer side wires, a coil between and extending at right angles with the inner ends of said outer side wires, inner side wires running approximately parallel with said outer side wires, oppositely disposed coils between the inner ends of said inner side wires, and a horizontal supporting member.
4. A hat holder made from one continuous piece of wire having horizontal side wires, coils between and exerting a pull on the inner ends of said side wires, and a supporting member extending from two of said coils.
5. A hat holder made from one continuous piece of wire having horizontal side wires, coils between and exerting a pull on the inner ends of said side wires, a supporting 10 member extending from two of said coils,
' and a fastening member adapted to connect M ATO FI'IZMAURICE MALONEY.
