Be it known that I, JOSEPH H. LA FAVE, of Defiance, county of Defiance, and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Metallic Barrels; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full,

clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the figures of reference marked thereon, which form part of this specification.

This invention relates to packages for shipping and storing oil and other liquids and it has for its object the construction of a sheet metal barrel at low cost and which shall be capable of withstanding the rough usage to which barrels are sub ected in transportatlon.

Referring to the-details, the body of the barrel consists of two like sections 1 and 2 of sheet steel formed up, as shown in Fig. 2, i

with inwardly extending walls 3 forming channels at the'meeting edges of the body sections for the reception of protective bands or hoops 4 of wood, and theadjoining walls 5 of the channels are in close contact and se cured by rivets 6, a tight joint being effected by brazing.
