Description

No. 863,195. PATENTED AUG. 13, 1907.
J. 0. MAKE. I
EDGE PROTEGTOR FOR TROUSERS.
APPLICATION FILED AUG. 28. 1906.
UNITED STATES JOSEPH C.
PATENT OFFIGE.
MARR, OF LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA, ASSIGNOR TO WILLIAM J. STRAUSS, OF LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA.
EDGE-PROTECTOR FOR TROUSERS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 13, 1907.
To all whom it may concern; :1 '3 i Be it known that I, JosEPH O. ll/IARR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Edge-Pro tectors for Trousers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to that class of edge protectors which are attached to the inner and lower ends of the legs of trousers to protect the same from rapid wear and soiling, and has for its object to provide a simple, durable and convenient appliance for such use capable for ready attachment, as well as a subsequent detachment when required, and which in addition is adapted to permit the lower portion of the trouser leg being readily turned up when required.
I accomplish this object by means of the device described herein and shown in the accompanying drawing in which:
Figure 1.- is a perspective view of a trouser leg with parts broken away to disclose my improved protector. Fig. 2. is a front elevation of my protector. Fig. 3. is a transverse section of the protector taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
Referring to the drawings 5 represents an edge protector formed of a light thin metal preferably aluminium segmental in form so that when it is attached to the inner edge of a trouser leg it will lie flatly thereon. The protector has on each end prongs 6 which are formed integral with the body of the protector and are adapted to enter the goods of which the trouser legs are formed and secure the protector thereto. The outer edge of the protector has a ridge 7 and the space between the prongs 6 is forced outwardly to form a proj ecting panel 8. Often times when the streets or walks are in a muddy condition the heels of the shoes often become coated with mud thereby transferring the same to the inner edges of the trousers and soiling them. By means of the central panel 8 when the heels become muddy this central panel will prevent the mud from being transferred to the trouser leg, as the panel projects a sufficient distance from the inner face of the protector so that it will strike the heel, and prevent the soiling of the trousers. If desired the protector could be attached to the front inner edge of the trouser leg. When the device is attached to the leg of a pair of trousers, the protector is invisible from the exterior and the central panel will absolutely prevent the trousers from becoming soiled by mud.
Having described my invention what I Claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A device of the class described, comprising a rectangular segmental body member attaching prongs formed integrally with said body member, said prongs lying in a plane parallel with the upper and lower edges of said body member and having their points projecting in opposite directions; and a raised central rectangular panel projecting outwardly from the face of said body member, said panel formed integrally with said body member and lying between said attaching prongs. (30
2. In a device of the character herein described com prising a segmental body member having a ridge around its edge; attaching prongs formed integrally with said body member, and projecting outwardly therefrom in opposite directions; and a raised central panel projecting outwardly from the face of said body member and formed integrally therewith.
In witness that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto subscribed my name this 15th day of August, 1906.
JOSEPH C. MARK.
