Description

1H: nomas PETERS co., wAsHmaroN. D. c,
ISAAC WESLEY MCCLANAHAN, OF SPOKANE, WASHINGTON.
KITCHEN-CABINET.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 30, 1907.
Application filed January 23,1907. Serial No. 353,706.
To all whom t may concern: I
Be it known that I,l ISAAC WESLEY MCGLANAHAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Spokane, in the county of Spokane and State of Washington7 have invented a new and useful Kitchen-Cabinet, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has relation to combined kitchen cabinets, dining tables and china closets and it consists in the novel construction and arrangement of its 10 parts as hereinafter" shown and described.
The object of the invention is to provide a device of the character indicated which will occupy but small space and which may be utilized in severalcapacities.
The cabinet consists primarily of a frame having suspended thereunder a plurality of bins7 the outer sides of which are set in from the ends of the cabinet in order that persons may be seated at the ends of the cabinet when the same is used as a dining table without having the sides of the bins interfering with the knees.
A series of drawers is slidably located in the frame of the cabinet and behind the said series of drawers is located a till for the reception of china dishes, etc. A top is slidably mounted upon the cabinet and a bread board is slidably located against the under sides thereof. A leaf is hinged to one edge of the cabinet and is adapted to be swung up and supported by brackets at the saine horizontal level with the said top. Asection is hinged to said leaf and is adapted to be swung over upon the frame of the cabinet above the china till thereof and the edge of the top of the cabinet may be moved into close contact with the edge of said section whereby a continuous table top is provided for dining purposes. I l v In the accompanying drawingz-Figure l is a per- Spective view of the cabinet. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of the upper portion of the same. Fig. 3 is an end elevation of the upper portion of the same7 and Fig. 4 is a vertical sectional view of the upper corner of the saine cut at right angles to the view shown in Fig. 2.
The box frame l is mounted upon the legs 2. The
bins 3, 3 depend from the frame l and are arranged to slide thereunder. The outer sides of the said bins are set in as at 4 in order to provide room for the knees at the ends of the cabinet when the same is used as a dining table. The series of drawers 5 are arranged to slide in the front of the frame l and a china till 6 is arranged within the said frame l at the rear of the drawers 5. The ends of the frame l are provided with the horizontally disposed beads 7. The top S is provided upon its under side with the guides 9 which receive the beads 7. The leaf l0 is hinged to the frame l and is adapted to be supported in a horizontal position on a level with the top 8 by the brackets ll. The section l2 is hinged to the leaf l0 and is adapted to be swung over the rear portion of the china till G into the same plane as the' leaf l0 and the top 8. The said top may then be moved back into close contact with the edge of the section l2 when a dining table is provided.
.The bread board 13 is slidably located under the top 8.
From the foregoing description it is obvious that the device may be used for a kitchen cabinet and is provided with means for holding material and utensils and that it may also be used for dining purposes. The parts are conveniently arranged and may be so folded as to occupy but small space. k
Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters-Patent is:-
A cabinet comprising a frame, a top slidably mounted thereon, a leaf hinged to the frame and adapted to swing into the same plane as the top or into a plane at an angle thereto, means for supporting the leaf in the plane with the top, and a section hinged to the edge of said leaf and adapted to swing over upon the frame into the plane of the top and lie between the edges of the top and the leaf.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
ISAAC WESLEY MCCLANAHAN.
Witnesses I'I. L. HERKELRATH. M. J. HILL, J. S. BARSTAD.
