To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, Hnrra T. SPRAGUE, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Cortland, in the county of Cortland, in the State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Garment- Supporters, of which the following, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a lull, clear, and exact description. I

The object of this invention is to provide simple, inexpensive, convenient and efficient means for supporting hose or skirts or other garments on the person wearing the same. And to that end the invention consists in the novel construction of the garment supporter hereinafter described and set forth in the claims.

In the-accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a front view of a hose supporter embodying my invention; Fig. 2 is a rear view of the same; Fig. 3 is an edge view showing in dotted lines the attachment of the hose supporter; and Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the hose supporting hooks detached from the aforesaid body plate.

a represents the body plate of the hose supporter, which plate is preferably formed from suitable sheet metal and shaped approximately rectangular. The two end portions a -a thereof constitute the main portion of the plate and are flat and in substantially the same plane. The central portion of the plate is formed with a rearward depression c/ extending across the plate and open at the front of the plate and provided with vertical slots tt through the depressed portion. The upper end portion a of said plate is provid ed with a transverse slot l) for the attachment of the lower end of the strap or elastic cpartly shown in dotted lines in Fig. oi the drawings. To protect the said strap or elastic from being cut or rapidly worn by its contact with the upper edge of the slot b I form the said slot by making one long incision at the bottom edge of the slot and two short vertical incisions at the ends of the slot and pressing the portion thus loosened outward and folding it up to the iace of the plate as shown at c. Said folded portion forms a rounded thick bearing for the strap c, as shown in Fig. 3.

Said hooks are readily connected to the plate 'a by passing the hooks endwise through the slots t-t from the front of the plate and pushing or drawing said hooks rearward and downward on the rear of the plate as shown in Figs. 2 and 3 and when in said position the central portion h of the wire lies longitudinally in the depressed portion (I of the plate a as shown in Fig. 1.

It will be observed that when the described garment supporter is completed and properly connected to the hose the lower portion of the plate a is in front of the hooks -ee and serves to shield the hooks and prevent them from catching on. the garment hanging over the exterior of the hose supporter.

it will also be readily seen that the plate ais very simple and inexpensive in construction, inasmuch as the slots b d d are easily punched in the plate, and the depression d can be formed by means of simple male and female dies.

What I claim as my invention is:

As an improved article of manufacture, a garment snp' porter consisting of a plate formed with flat end portions in substantially the same plane and a rearward depression extending across the center of the plate and open at the front of the plate and provided with vertical slots through the depressed portion, and a wire formed with a straight central portion, the adjacent portions deflected at right angles from the central portion, and the end portions de ilected at right angles from said adjacent portions and formed into upwardly disposed hooks shorter than the lowercnd portion of the plate, said hooks being inserted through the aforesaid slots from the front of the plate and the central portion of the wire placed into the depression of the plate and carrying the hooks at the rear of the plate and completely covered thereby as set forth and shown.
